Travel Tuesday: National Gallery of Art

I spent a couple of hours on a rainy day recently wandering around the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.  A great place to explore, and like most of the museums in DC, admission is free.

  1. I think the first photo where the man is copying a painting, that the copy is looking better than the original.

    1. The face is more elongated in the copy.

  2. An incredible space. Those are some gifted current painters, too. I wonder what their own original work is like.

  3. I got lost in the architecture of the space, but then watched the painters paint the paintings. I'd probably sit for hours just to watch them work.

  4. It's always been a lovely museum. And watching the artist recreate already existing works of art would be fun to watch.

  5. Beautiful shots. I love seeing so many artists at work. The painting Rembrandt is especially good.

  7. I was going to say - it's as if no one else was there apart from your good self. However, something is going on in the last photograph that I don't quite understand. Are there two visitors in the inner doorway?

  8. I visited one of the art museums in Washington once years ago and remember being stunned to walk into a room full of paintings by one famous artist, it may have been Rembrandt.
