A few years ago it slipped out that US intelligence had been reading the emails of the German Chancellor. There was a bit of a kerfuffle about us reading the emails of an ally, but behind their hands all involved were thinking, well that is what we pay them to do, and if the Germans aren't trying to read ours, they are not doing their job.
I work in a city of secrets. Some of them are in the open, some are buried so deeply few people know they exist.
People in positions of authority and power are constantly being watched, monitored. Everyone wants to be their friend. Some are honest true friends, some are professional friends hoping to get access to help their true friends. It can make it tricky to get to know people in a world Capital.
Every government and many business have their sources. People and places where they learn what is happening in the world. People who place themselves in positions of risk, to learn and share what they can. For business, being found out as the source, can lead to being fired. For governments, it can often lead to disappearance and death. Benedict Arnold was not the first or the last to seem friendly to one side, while feeding information to the other side.
One of the things that really bugs me about he who must NOT be named, well it is okay to name him in an indictment, is he is so eager to be liked, that he accepts into his inner circle people who are there for what they can get. He is such an easy target, the world knows his weaknesses, and he is to clueless to know that some of those he thinks are his friends are there to take advantage of him. And then he stores boxes of records on the stage in a ballroom, and an unused bathroom, people get access to him, they get access to all kinds of things that could be harmful, even deadly for our people, and our allies in the world.
As someone said, if you want a friend in this town, get a dog, and I will add have the dog checked for bugs and I don't mean fleas.
I am sure you mean "he who must NOT be named" - but I get the clear message, and couldn't agree more. "Harmful" yes, and "deadly," absolutely no question. God forbid he becomes president again!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the edit, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE
DeleteAnd worse yet is that so many people in positions of power in our government and country refuse to speak the truth about him.
ReplyDeleteWe could name a few names there.
DeleteI grinned at your mention of checking dogs for bugs but then I thought, quite possible. Dogs need to be checked.
ReplyDeleteIf dogs could talk, the things they have heard and seen
DeleteI echo what Mitchell says. There are so many people that keep excusing him for things like this. In addition, there are so many people who don't want to ruffle the feathers of his "base."
ReplyDeleteHis base will find a new cult to follow, when he falls.
DeleteI'm also with Mitchell. I need people to speak up, and just just We The People, but those in power. He's a tiny little man with a huge ego, speak up!
ReplyDeleteAnd Cast A Goddamned Vote.
I voted this week, in a local primary, of little importance, because I could, because everyone needs to (the primary is next week, I am going to be out of town.)
DeleteI don't think he's a naive buffoon. I think he's a calculating con man psychopath. The only one using people is him.
ReplyDeleteHe is dangerous,
DeleteWhen they define the word "narcissist" in the dictionary, they should have a photo of him. He is the perfect example of that particular mental illness.
ReplyDeleteVery much so
DeleteIt's obvious that #45 doesn't like reading. It was true throughout his childhood and his formal education so why did he sequester all of those boxes of heavy reading material and have them shipped down to Mar-a-Lago? It doesn't make sense. He's more of a pizza and TV cartoon kind of guy.
ReplyDeleteA lot if it was news clippings and memorabilia, things he hopes to be remembered by. Apparently he had a habit of packing a box at the end of the day with whatever was laying around his office, and taking it upstairs with him. And he had no real regard for confidences or national security.
DeleteI find all of comments, quite fitting.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on, and stay safe.
It is going to be a fun election
DeleteSecrets. I have found the less of them the more liberated I feel.
ReplyDeleteKnowing them, or keeping them
