The Sunday Morning Five: Osborne & Osborne



  1.  Have you ever ordered from a menu in a language you don't read or speak? 
  2.  Have you ever been surprised by what you ordered? 
  3.  Have you ever told the server, "I don't know what I want, bring me something great"?  
  4.  Have you ever been to a country that does not have a McDonalds? 
  5.  Do you know anyone who seems to always complain about the food in a restaurant? 
My Answers:

  1.  Have you ever ordered from a menu in a language you don't read or speak?  A few times, pointing at photos. 
  2.  Have you ever been surprised by what you ordered?  Yes, one of the joys of the adventure. 
  3.  Have you ever told the server, "I don't know what I want, bring me something great"?  It has been a long time, but I have done this. Probably 3 out of 4 times it was wonderful. 
  4.  Have you ever been to a country that does not have a McDonalds?  Iceland, they had one, once, it went out of business. 
  5.  Do you know anyone who seems to always complain about the food in a restaurant? Don't we all have that one friend who sends half of what is served back?

    Have you ever ordered from a menu in a language you don't read or speak? Yes.

    Have you ever been surprised by what you ordered? Yes. Then it arrives and I'm like oh shit.

    Have you ever told the server, "I don't know what I want, bring me something great"? No.

    Have you ever been to a country that does not have a McDonalds?I'm not sure. I don't recall the cities in Costa Rica having them. Or maybe I just didn't notice them.

    Do you know anyone who seems to always complain about the food in a restaurant? I have a friend that does not matter how many Stars the restaurant, how fine a hotel, how popular a bar, or world-renowned spas, she will manage to find something wrong every single time and make a scene, it's the reason these days I am very seldom go anywhere with her.

    Have you ever been surprised by what you ordered? Yes, and usually unpleasantly.
    Have you ever told the server, "I don't know what I want, bring me something great"? No
    Have you ever been to a country that does not have a McDonalds? Not surew. Probably not.
    Do you know anyone who seems to always complain about the food in a restaurant? Yes. I hate going out with them.

    5. Kind of. I have one who refuses to order off the menu. Everything is "can you do.....?" Annoying AF.

    Have you ever ordered from a menu in a language you don't read or speak? Carlos and I once ordered off a menu written in Portuguese that neither of us understood; luckily the server was quite helpful.

    Have you ever been surprised by what you ordered? We ate at a Mexican restaurant near my Dad's house when he lived at the Canadian border and they had Albondigas, a Mexican meatball soup, which I ordered as a starter to my meal. When it arrived it was served in a bowl slightly larger than a Smart car. I asked for the rest of my meal to-go.

    Have you ever told the server, "I don't know what I want, bring me something great"? I have never. I think I can always find something or else listen to a good suggestion.

    Have you ever been to a country that does not have a McDonalds? No, but I haven't been to a McDonalds in any country since I was about nine-years-old.

    Do you know anyone who seems to always complain about the food in a restaurant? Yes. Nina. Oh, and Robin.

    Have you ever been surprised by what you ordered? yes. I makes me want to look at the menu again to see what I read. Did I get it wrong.
    Have you ever told the server, "I don't know what I want, bring me something great"? The word for this is 'omakase"
    Have you ever been to a country that does not have a McDonalds? No
    Do you know anyone who seems to always complain about the food in a restaurant? Happily, no.

    Have you ever been surprised by what you ordered? I wouldn't use the word "surprised" but I use the word "interesting"
    Have you ever told the server, "I don't know what I want, bring me something great"? No, but I will give a try.
    Have you ever been to a country that does not have a McDonalds? No
    Do you know anyone who seems to always complain about the food in a restaurant? yes, and one just want to crawl under the table.
