The Sunday Five: Construction

1: Have you ever moved into a new home?

2: If you could build a new home this year, what would it be like?

3: About how old is the home you live in?

4: What is / was the oldest home you have lived in?

5: If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?

My answers:

1: Have you ever moved into a new home? Four times. (I worked for home builders for 15 years.)

2: If you could build a new home this year, what would it be like? Modern design, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, open kitchen, lots of light.

3: About how old is the home you live in? It was built in the mid 1980's so about 40 years old.

4: What is / was the oldest home you have lived in? The one I am living in now.

5: If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?  It would be nice to have an extra room as an office/library.

Please share your answer in the comments.

  3. 1. Technically twice. Once I was 2, the next I was 6. Clearly, my parents had these built, not myself.
    2. Single story. Modern. Energy efficient w solar panels somewhere. Opportunitie for lots of light. A yard for the dog.
    3. it is 103 years old.
    4. Oddly, our last three homes (including this one) were built in 1920. Though there is some possible indication the one before this was built in 1910. Records are not consistent.
    5. The garage needs to be 4''5' wider.

    1. A precise figure on the garage width. My father's last house in Florida had an oversized garage,

  4. 1: Have you ever moved into a new home? The first home my parents bought was new and I moved in with them as a child, so that should count. As for men, personally, I have never owned a new home.

2: If you could build a new home this year, what would it be like? Minimalist and modern with lots of windows and secret gardens.

3: About how old is the home you live in? Fifty years old.

4: What is / was the oldest home you have lived in? I once owned a small Tudor bungalow in downtown Sacramento that was built in the 1910s, so she's well over one hundred now.

5: If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be? The kitchen; the size and layout are prefect but the finishes need an update.

  5. 1. Yep. The garage was used as an office to sell the other houses in the cul-de-sac, so we got a discount.
    2. It would be like this one, only with a bigger kitchen and more storage space.
    3. About forty years old, I think. We looked at so many homes before buying this one that the ages all run together.
    4. We lived in one that was old as dirt, but our cantankerous neighbor was too hard to live near. He was old as dirt, too.
    5. Pull up the carpet in the master bathroom (the Master don't need no carpet). I mean really, who puts carpet in a bathroom surrounded by sinks, a tub, and a shower? Mildew just waiting to happen. Too bad we're both procrastinators.

    1. My mother carpeted a couple of bathrooms in the 70's, a silly idea.
