The Sunday Five: Get Moving

  1. Do you have access to a gym?
  2. Do you go out intentionally to walk?
  3. Do you ride bikes?
  4. Do you swim?
  5. Are you a runner?
My answers:

  1. Do you have access to a gym? The one above is part of the condo community center.
  2. Do you go out intentionally to walk? Yes, often on the weekends, I have started getting off the subway a mile from my office and walking the last mile.
  3. Do you ride bikes? I used to, I miss it.
  4. Do you swim? Seldom, I should swim more.
  5. Are you a runner? I was for about a decade from my late 20's to late 30's.  I swore I would never stop. But I did. I miss it.
Please share your answers in the comments.

  1. 1. Yes, but you didn't ask if I used it. I don't.
    2. Yes, and try to avoid hills.
    3. No, but I still have one. I expect its tyres are flat.
    4. I do but not often. I should swim more, but it is such a bother to shower afterwards.
    5. No running, not even to catch a tram.

  2. Do you have access to a gym? Yes. Wish it was in the building.
Do you go out intentionally to walk? Every day.
Do you ride bikes? Not for a long time. Used to love to.
    Do you swim? Not recently.
Are you a runner? I wish. I used to run a long time ago.

    1. There are such pretty places for you to walk

  3. 1. I do. And I use it at least 6x / wk.
    2. I do. Not just dog walks. But I try to get out at lunch every day for a short walk.
    3. I used to. We now hike with Shep, as opposed to leaving him behind for a 3-4 hr bike ride.
    4. I have. I no longer have access to a pool. I'd rather not swim in Lake Erie.
    5. Until my half-marathon, I hesitated calling myself "a runner". I felt - and still feel - like an imposter in this world.

  4. Do you have access to a gym? We do not, in our house. There are a couple nearby but we don't bother.
Do you go out intentionally to walk? Every day.
Do you ride bikes? It's been a while.
Do you swim? Every time I get near water ... well, in warm weather, too.
Are you a runner? I did eons ago, but feel walking is better on old joints.

  5. Do you have access to a gym? No. I don't like gyms or gym culture so have never been a member of one. In fact, I have never been in a modern gym.
Do you go out intentionally to walk? Yes I do. It is one of the greatest pleasures of my life. I work out a circular walk on a map and do it. It might be five or six miles and sometimes ten or twelve. I nearly always walk alone at my own pace, pausing whenever I wish.
Do you ride bikes? Not if I can help it. They do not agree with my ass.
Do you swim? I love to swim but I have come to hate public swimming baths. I haven't had a swim in the sea since September 2019 - in Croatia.
Are you a runner? No. I hate running. My body is not designed for it but I was good at rugby in what Americans call "high school". That involved short bursts, not long runs..
I hope I have provided enough information Professor Penguin and that it will be of use to you in your valuable research into the idleness of western men.

  6. Do you have access to a gym? Yes, I do and with my recent step into the Silver Sneaker club, I have been testing out a few facilities.
Do you go out intentionally to walk? Yes, every day and depending on Mother Nature's whims.
Do you ride bikes? Yes. Lots of wonderful bike trails in my area for longer rides and I have routes figured out for shorter rides.
    Do you swim? No.
Are you a runner? Used to be but now a little arthritis in the knees and my physical therapist say don't do it.

  7. 1. If a bunch of exercise equipment in the garage counts, sure.
    2. Not anymore. I need to start back but neuropathy pain stops me.
    3. I used to, but I can't make left turns on a two-wheeler anymore. I have a trike that needs to get de-webbed and used again.
    4. I used to (there seems to be a theme here). My arms don't work well. My kids have a pool so when the weather gets hot I can go the couple of blocks to their home and bob like a cork in it. Good exercise.
    5. Sir, you dare use the "r" word up in here! I can't even run from spiders anymore. Balder Half likes the fact that I'm easy to catch these days.
