The Way We Were Wednesday : My How They Grow Up

Early on in blogging, we made several friends, who have largely stopped blogging through the years.  Stephen in London got me started, one of his commentors was a woman from Iowa, who is now in Alabama (and whose blog I stopped reading when she was touting he who must not be named for President), one of her comentors was Woodchuck who last posted nearly a year ago, he connected us to Secret Squirrel, the two of them worked together.  Woodchuck was at convention about 80 miles from where we were living in 2007, and we met at the Maker's Mark Restaurant in Louisville for dinner.  Much to our mutual relief, none of us were axe murderers.  In 2008 - how can that be 14 years ago, we were in Seattle for a couple of days before and after a cruise to the Alaska, and Woodchuck, Kell (Mrs-Chuck) and their two daughter drove up from Oregon to have lunch with is (and we also met Squirrel, the then Mrs Squirrel, and kids.)  The fine young woman above was about 12 at the time, my how we have changed.

She was in DC recently for work related meetings, aka, lobbying congress on important issues.  We met her for lunch at a Jose Andres restaurant near Gallery Place.  All of this started with a guest blog post back in 2005.  My how we have grown since then.

Grown in more than one way. All but one Blogger meeting for me has gone well. The one that didn't was only because we didn't connect, not that anything really wrong.

  3. We never know where or who blogging will take us or who we will meet.

  4. (Not through blogging, but....) In 2005, I wanted to reproduce a photo but was unable to find contact information for the photographer (who took the photo at a Canadian Cardigan Welsh Corgi specialty show) to ask permission, so I contacted the president of the club for help. Long story short, by chance we (the club president and I) had an email exchange that revealed we were cousins (14 generations removed, but who's counting?); her family members were Loyalists during the Revolutionary War and moved to Canada, while my family members were Patriots, who remained in New England. We've become very close since, with many visits back and forth. So, a looong comment on the beauty of many chance meetings, though the Internet.

    1. During Covid I was walking in a local wildlife preserve and got to talking with a retired couple. He mentioned a Mayflower ancestor -turns out we share a common ancestor, 30th cousins or something like that.

    2. That is indeed the connection with my cousin. 14 removed. I am also related to more than one Mayflower passenger (according to my cousin, who is a history buff). Small world, isn't it, and literally thousands of Mayflower descendants. Even if we aren't related, we share many of the same views!

  9. I got kind of lost in that first paragraph, so I don't know who is who. That is a beautiful woman, though.

    1. I tend to drive around the block a few times in my paragraphs, I just sent an email that ended with what it should have started with.

  10. One of my fondest memories was my first Blogger get together in Rehoboth. Meeting other bloggers is one of my favorite things to do.
