My Answers:
1: Have you driven on the right side of the road? Most of my adult life.
2: Have you driven on the left side of the road? I have rented cars in England and Ireland - we still need to see Scotland.
3: Can you drive a manual transmission? Yes, it has been a while, but it is like riding a bike - it comes back to you in a hurry.
4: Do you prefer the expressway, or off the beaten path? Off the beaten path.
5: Would you rent* a car in a foreign country? Planning to again next spring.

* Note on word usage. You rent property, you hire labor. Unless the car comes with a driver, you rent it.
1: Have you driven on the right side of the road?
ReplyDeleteYes. I do now, most of the time.
2: Have you driven on the left side of the road?
Yes. Always until I started driving in France.
3: Can you drive a manual transmission?
Yes, always have. Automatics are too......automatic.
4: Do you prefer the expressway, or off the beaten path?
Country roads, always.
5: Would you rent a car in a foreign country?
Yes, have done in America and Europe. Trying to remember not to change gear with the door handle was an issue until I got used to driving on the right. Trying to remember not to change gear at all in an automatic was also an issue!
The first time I went to London I rented a car, and surprised that the gear lever was on the left.
Delete1. I drive on the correct side of the road as it is much safer. I've never driven on the right side of the road, and I would attempt that now at my age.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, that is the right side of the road.
3. Yes, frequently and often when I was younger but now I really see the sense of automatic transmissions.
4. Not too off road but I hate driving on freeways.
5. Yes, twice, in England. Normal rental the second time. The first time was mates' rates, through family. The insurance details were entered but not sent. The car was returned undamaged and we never paid for the insurance.
It always safest to drive on the same side of the road as everyone else. I avoided right and wrong, it is impolite to point out the error of other countries ways.
Delete1 Should have been would not attempt, of course. I totally agree about your impoliteness point and I should have couched right and wrong differently. What about desirable and undesirable?
Delete1: Have you driven on the right side of the road? Nope. My reflexes would scare me.
ReplyDelete2: Have you driven on the left side of the road? Solely.
3: Can you drive a manual transmission? Yes, but apparently not according to the laws of Spain.
4: Do you prefer the expressway, or off the beaten path? Depends on the mood.
5: Would you rent a car in a foreign country? Yes.
We will probably rent in France next trip.
