I am not a practitioner of any organized religion. I said that one day, and the response was, "oh you are an Episcopalian, they are about as disorganized as anyone can be."
I do like visiting houses of worship, mostly older ones, ones that are amazing architecture, filled with art. This one is in the old quarter of Montreal. Well worth the visit.
I'm with you on religion. I am not a practitioner either, but I do love the architecture. On my trip to Buenos Aires, I saw some very old, and large-scale cathedrals and churches. That was a great city for architecture.
ReplyDeleteOften worth the time to visit
DeleteThe architecture is often astounding. That woodwork is stunning.
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice one, the cats would have fun on that stairway
DeleteIt looks beautiful. Nay, extra beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAgree
DeleteI love churches, just not what goes on inside most of them.
ReplyDeleteI should write about power and control
DeleteThat must be St Joseph's Oratory. I visited there when I was last in Montreal too, which I blush to say was 45 years ago. I assume it hasn't changed much, lol!
ReplyDeleteClose, it is the old cathedral of Notre Dame in the old city. Montreal has the old cathedral, the new cathedral downtown, and the Oratory on the side of Mt Royal.
DeleteGlad he answered, I wouldn't have had to go look up the answer. It is a very spectacular interior
DeleteThe old Notre Dame cathedral, indeed, is beautiful. I visited it when I was last in Montreal, nine years ago. I adore the city, having lived there, for a time, during both summer and winter....
DeleteI'm the same. No religion but a love of some of the masterpieces created in the name of religion.
ReplyDeleteThe wood carving in this one must have taken decades to finish
DeleteModern churches are awful compared to these lovelies.
