The Sunday Five - Books

J.P Morgan had a spectacular private library, which raised questions for me, all of the inspriration I need for this weeks Sunday five.

1: Are there books you have multiple copies or editions of?

2: Have you ever stood in line to buy a first edition on the day it was released?

3: Do you buy books just to own them, or only to read them?

4: Have you read 90% or more of the books you own?

5: Do you have an active library card?

My Answers:

1: Are there books you have multiple copies or editions of? No longer, I did at one time, but we have downsized.

2: Have you ever stood in line to buy a first edition on the day it was released? Yes, Harry Potter books.

3: Do you buy books just to own them, or only to read them? Almost always to read.

4: Have you read 90% or more of the books you own? Yes. Probably more than 95%.

5: Do you have an active library card? No, I should do something about that.

Please share your answers in the comments.

    4. Maybe 98% and I expect that figure will remain
    5. Two, but not used for a long time. I have updated them to electronic cards

  3. 1. My friend Rebecca's book, "Nice to Come Home To". I have a galley copy, and two actual copies - both signed. One was mine; one she signed for my mother. I retrieved it when we cleaned out her house after she died.
    2. No. I went out the first day to get the last Harry Potter book; but I didn't stand in line for it.
    3. To read them. I don't buy just to fill up shelves.
    4. 99% are read. I think I have one or three that I've purchased and not yet read. Those don't go onto a shelf until they've been read.
    5. I do! And use it.

4: Have you read 90% or more of the books you own? Yes I have; some more than once.

  5. These days, I read only e-books on Kindle so I can increase the font size. Since I can't see to read print books any more, I just had a massive clearout of my bookcase, donating most of my books to an upcoming fundraiser book sale. Now the contents of my bookshelves are 80% knickknacks.

    1. I am primarily a Kindle reader, though I have bought a bunch of print books recently. We parted with most of the print books when we sold the second house. I need to thin down my print collection again, it is time to donate most of the professional books. Space is limited. Besides the books do no good collecting dust - get them out where someone can read them and learn from them or enjoy them.

  6. 1. Nope
    2. Nope
    3. Read and re-read or donate to libraries.
    4. Yep and keep adding on.
    5. Yeah, it's active. It keeps mating with my Mastercard and buying books for my Kindle! Bundles, even. Other than that, no longer in use.

    1. So many books, so little time. A friend in Oklahoma converted a barn into her personal library, 5,000 sq. ft. of climate controlled heaven.

2: Have you ever stood in line to buy a first edition on the day it was released? No

3: Do you buy books just to own them, or only to read them? To read

4: Have you read 90% or more of the books you own? No. I have a lot of my mom's books, which have sentimental value rather than reading value. I am reaching the point where they need to have a new home.

5: Do you have an active library card? Not any longer. When the library system remodeled its facilities and became more technology centric, I let my library card expire.
