Sunday Five- Blogging and Reading Blogs

An old friend got me started on blogging by asking me to fill in for him for a couple of weeks one summer while he went on holiday (he is English.) Through blogging I have met some wonderful friends.  Some only virtual, others in Person.  I have mourned a few losses.  Celebrated a few accomplishments. Hence this weeks Sunday Five:

1: Have you met any bloggers in person?

2: Do you almost always leave a comment?

3: Are there blogs you read that you would never leave a comment on?

4: Has anyone ever tracked you down from your blog?

5: What blogger do you hope to meet in person someday?

My Answers!

1: Have you met any bloggers in person? About 10 of them.

2: Do you almost always leave a comment? There is a core group that I try to leave a comment, even if it just a couple of words to let you know I was there, and a few I rarely comment on.

3: Are there blogs you read that you would never leave a comment on? A few.  There are a couple I stopped commenting on because the response made it clear my comments were unwelcome.

4: Has anyone ever tracked you down from your blog? Someone posted a photo in a comment of me taking a photo that appeared on my blog.  No further contact, that was memorable.

5: What blogger do you hope to meet in person someday There are several, Ken and Walt in France, Sharon in Phoenix, Angus and Sophie in France,  Deedles who doesn't blog but posts great comments, there are others.

Please share your answers in the comments

    2. Oh, I just remembered. We were sitting in a local café years ago with our dog, Callie. A woman and her husband walked by and the woman said OMG, it's Callie the Collie! She recognized Callie from the blog. We had a short chat before she apologized saying she didn't want us to think she was a stalker and went on her way.

    1. Not as many as you, but quite a few.
    2. Much the same as you do. Bloggers who I really like but don't post often will always get a comment. Daily bloggers, mostly but at times there is just nothing to really say.
    3. There are a few where I have tried but while the blogger had replied to some, not to mine. I always reply to comment from a blogger I don't know and mostly check out their blog. I don't feel as obliged to comment on really professional blogs. (Haha, yours is not one of them).
    4. No, but people have worked out which apartment building I live in, which is not hard even though I've never given the street number or building name.
    5. One within a couple of weeks, but she is pleading shyness and a lack of confidence. I made the offer because we will be in her city. I said, no pressure, just an offer. I'd quite like to meet her though. I will only meet if there has been an email exchange and if locally, an exchange of phone numbers. I also have to take my partner into account. The only blogger my partner did not meet with me turned out to be an awkward meet anyway. My instinct was good.

    1. I try to respond to every comment, except the spam - you know the one's marketing a moving company half way around the world in a place I have never been or written about, I report and delete those,

2: Do you almost always leave a comment? Usually. Sometimes, I just have nothing to say... even if I like what I’ve read.
3: Are there blogs you read that you would never leave a comment on? Yes.
4: Has anyone ever tracked you down from your blog? Yes, a former blogger who then got a hotel room for a week one street away, informed me the day he arrived, and expected I would spend all day every day with him. It was a bit awkward and exhausting.

  5. 1. I've met a number of them. Many of them now defunct in the blogging world. I don't think those two things are related. Probably. But for some of these, I've become good friends.
    2. Not always. I try, but you know, sometimes I have nothing of interest to say / add.
    3. I've stopped FOLLOWING some blogs due to the fact how they respond to a reply for which they solicited in the first place.
    4. Yes....right down to my address. It got odd. It was creepy.
    5. I'm sure there are. The thought of travel where i might meet up with one still seems remote to me.

    1. There are times when I read a post, and try as I may, no words of comments form. I have also responded to questions, and been soundly told why my answer wouldn't work.

2: Do you almost always leave a comment? Yes, I do.

4: Has anyone ever tracked you down from your blog? I have met people who, when the blog comes up, say, "I read that!" That's kinda cool.

5: What blogger do you hope to meet in person someday? There are a few, for varying reasons.

  9. 1. Nope.

    2. There's a handful where I almost always leave a comment, when I'm not hibernating. Others are sporadic.

    3. This question is hard. I never say never about leaving comments, usually, because sometimes I do out of the blue. Those are the sporadic ones. Sometimes they become regular much to the chagrin (I imagine) of the blogger. I've only found one blogger that I won't respond to in any way shape or form. He's way too toxic for me and I don't like feeling the need to punch somebody in the face. I actually stopped reading that particular blog.

    4. I don't have a blog, so no. Maddie tracked me down because he knew Ann Marie had my address (I own one of her lovely pieces of knitted art). I've sent some bloggers ecards because I found their email addresses on their profile pages. I AM NOT A STALKER!

    5. This is going to sound rude; I don't mean it to be. I hope to meet none of y'all. I have a picture in my head of all of my favorites (you included) sitting in a bar or restaurant chatting away, while I'm in a corner just watching. I'm too introverted to meet people face to face. I'll leave it at that.

    1. There are a couple of bloggers that I found toxic and stopped reading, though I may peak from time to time, but not often. Most of us are the person you would expect if you met us. If I am in your area, I will let you know where I am having lunch with someone so you can sit nearby.

  10. 1. I've met a few over the years -- maybe half a dozen or so.
    2. Yes, I pretty much always leave a comment. Occasionally, I don't if I can't think of anything to say.
    3. No, if I read a blog, I try to comment. I figure if a blogger has gone to the time and trouble to create a post, the least I can do is take a few seconds to leave a comment in appreciation or acknowledgement.
    4. If by "tracked down" you mean figured out who I am in real life, yes, that happened once. But she was a friend who knew me and happened to stumble across my blog, and put two-and-two together.
    5. I'm always open to having a coffee meetup with fellow bloggers! But so few come to Edmonton (why? LOL) and I don't travel a lot these days.

  13. 1: Have you met any bloggers in person? Several - 99% were good experiences, and I have become friends (although mostly remotely) with most of those I've met.

2: Do you almost always leave a comment? Oy! What a can of worms. No, but not for lack of wanting to. I want to leave comments every time, on every blog I read, but if I am unable to read blogs every day (which I try to do, via Feedly) and comment every day, I can get overwhelmed from being "too far behind" and don't leave any. I also try to respond to comments on my blog, or look for responses to my comments on other blogs, but time constraints keep me from doing so as often as I'd like. I believe commenting is important to establish connections and appreciation in the blogger world, so I try to comment or respond at least enough to let bloggers know I'm there and following along, and that I appreciate their posts as well as visiting my blog. And I always check out blogs and leave a comment for new commenters (if they have a blog.) There're also a few non-blogging commenters I would love to meet.

3: Are there blogs you read that you would never leave a comment on? Yes, because after lack of reciprocation or response, I figured my comments weren't appreciated, if not straight up unwelcome, so why bother? Also, there is one blog I follow out of "guilt" but they post rarely and their posts are odd, non-coherent, and often negative, so I'm not even sure why I still have them in my feed.

4: Has anyone ever tracked you down from your blog? Not tracked down, per se, but people in my work and home life have found my blog somehow, which has caused problems in the past, causing me to change what and how I blog. I have met a few people IRL that approached me and recognized me from my blog, which made me feel a tiny bit like a celebrity.

5: What blogger do you hope to meet in person someday? Honestly, I would happily meet any blogger I follow (so far as I know, they are the same bloggers that follow me, for the most part.) Clearly, there is something about them I like or I would not be interested in reading what they have to say. There are a few I feel "closer" to, due to our longevity of communication, that I would prioritize if I had to; otherwise, if someone shows interest, I'm open for it.

    1. Great thoughtful responses, reading and commenting can be time consuming, I have about 15 daily reads, takes about an hour every morning.
