The Sunday Five - Cars

On King Street one morning recently. Nice, very Nice.

A couple of weeks ago, Andrew in Australia, pointed out that most of my early cars were kind of ugly, and he was right.  That got me to thinking about the cars I have owned, and why I bought them, and what I didn't really think about when I bought them, hence this weeks Sunday five.

1: Have you ever bought a car or truck, just because you liked the way it looked from the outside?

2: Have you ever gone out specifically to buy a particular model of car or truck?

3: Have you ever bought a car just because of the color?

4: Is there a particular feature on a car or truck that you always want to have?

5: Have you ever bought a car or truck as an impulse buy, you were not really shopping you just saw it and had to have it?

My answers:

1: Have you ever bought a car or truck, just because you liked the way it looked from the outside? Not really, I have owned a couple of nice looking cars, but that is not my primary concern.

2: Have you ever gone out specifically to buy a particular model of car or truck? No, not really.

3: Have you ever bought a car just because of the color? No.  My Ex did, when the salesman asked what are you looking for the answer was "a blue car." Any car as long as it was blue.

4: Is there a particular feature on a car or truck that you always want to have? I love my sunroof.  Given a choice I will never own a car again without one.

5: Have you ever bought a car or truck as an impulse buy, you were not really shopping you just saw it and had to have it? Yes, the second of the three new Honda Accords.

    2. Yes, Buick LeSabres.
    3. No. I have not bought a car because of its color though. Baby poop green, ugh!
    4. I have to have rooooooom! Cushy seats and leg room.
    5. An impulse buy car? Obviously you've gotten me confused with ol' let's buy a bed at the fair, Balder Half.

    2. You know what's weird, I need lots of leg room when sitting on the passenger side, but when I'm driving I have to be right under the steering wheel. It's kind of hard when one has a major front butt, but it makes me feel more in control of the car.

  2. Have you ever bought a car or truck, just because you liked the way it looked from the outside? Yes Saturn Sky.

Have you ever gone out specifically to buy a particular model of car or truck? I tend to stick with a make if I'm enjoying the ride and the make is well made. I'm not one to jump from make to make.

Have you ever bought a car just because of the color? No.

Is there a particular feature on a car or truck that you always want to have? Where to start?!?! JK, I almost always have to have a moonroof, air. Most basics.

Have you ever bought a car or truck as an impulse buy, you were not really shopping you just saw it and had to have it? Yes, I newest three weeks ago. I went to just look, as I was considering my third Mazda, and came out with a new car. Couldn't resist the excellent trade in I got.

    1. Car looks are always a consideration.

    2. Our last four cars were chosen models by us before going to car showrooms.

    3. See above. We chose the colour.

    4. Present car, chosen for an electric open opening tailgate and electric driving seat adjustment with memory. A couple of inches can make all the difference. My partner is a bit taller than I am.

    5. No. Not in my character.

    1. Car shopping is kind of like going to Target, you don't know what you need, until you see it.

  5. 1. No. I won't even say I came close, but the Volkswagen CC always made me smile when I saw it. Getting in and out of it was too difficult for me, so I went a different route.

    2. Eventually. After doing the research and test drives. But have I done it on an impulse? No.

    3. Never.

    4. In the past, no. Currently, the lane safety features are important, so I would not do without those anymore, ditto with seat heaters. I won't lie - I like the heated steering wheel too, but those are rare. And the iPhone charging pad is nice - not just to charge, but it keeps your phone out of reach just a bit.

    5. Oh lord no.

  6. 1: Have you ever bought a car or truck, just because you liked the way it looked from the outside? Not JUST because of the way it looked, but it didn’t hurt.

2: Have you ever gone out specifically to buy a particular model of car or truck? We had a Saturn VUE for several years and when it was time to let her go, we did go out to find a similar sized SUV.

3: Have you ever bought a car just because of the color? Again, not JUST for the color, but I picked a car I wanted and then got the color of my choice.

4: Is there a particular feature on a car or truck that you always want to have? Sunroof. I love a sunroof.

5: Have you ever bought a car or truck as an impulse buy, you were not really shopping you just saw it and had to have it? Nope. I don’t window shop cars.

  7. I let others buy my cars for me as I am timorous to do so.
I always go with the oh-so-practical highest gas mileage and the nearness of a garage near my workplace so I can drop it off for tuneups . That is what makes me buy a car.
