Food - Sunday Five

I love to cook, and it shows.  I am an adventurous eater, there are few things I won't try.  There are things I just don't understand why people eat.  Some that are more trouble than they are worth.

1: Artichokes -  Have you ever cleaned them and cooked them?
2: Artichokes - Wonderful - or why bother?
3: Oysters - Have you ever opened them?
4: Oysters - Love them, or hate them?
5: Rutabagas - have you ever cooked one of those monsters?

My answers:
1: Artichokes -  Have you ever cleaned them and cooked them?  - Yes, a lot of work for what you end up with.
2: Artichokes - Wonderful - or why bother? - Why bother? Not much flavor -
3: Oysters - Have you ever opened them?  A long time ago, yes
4: Oysters - Love them, or hate them? LOVE then, raw or fried
5: Rutabagas - have you ever cooked one of those monsters? - Yes, I usually leave them for J to cook.

Your answers?

  1. I'll just talk about artichokes, which I have never cooked or cleaned. I love them cooked in salads, and other dishes. I hate eating them whole. The process of placing a leaf in my mouth, scraping it with my teeth, and then placing the remains on my plate... BLECH!!!

My father grew, and grows artichokes, so we ate a lot growing up. I have cooked, cleaned, eaten, and loved artichokes!

2: Artichokes - Wonderful - or why bother? Wonderful; make a nice vinaigrette to drizzle over them!

3: Oysters - Have you ever opened them? Nope.

4: Oysters - Love them, or hate them? Ate one, hated it.

5: Rutabagas - have you ever cooked one of those monsters? I wouldn't know a rutabaga if it walked up to me on the street and slapped my face. it won't .... will it?

  5. I love artichokes, especially prepared in the Roman manner-using the whole thing (see: carciofi alla romana); don't like the "peel & eat" method (Italians consider it barbaric). Oysters I can take or leave. Rutabaga is the vegetable God eats; it is virtually incomparable.
