About 30 years ago, while we were still living in Florida, we flew to Washington DC for a conference in late December or early January. J aka Sweet Bear, was interviewing for jobs, I was along for the ride. We changed planes in Cleveland. We stepped outside for a breath of Cleveland air, and there was a little fresh snow on the ground. I picked up a handful, and was shocked at how cold it was. I had been living in Florida and had not seen snow in about 15 years.
There are several landmark memories from that trip, including the endless Naan bread that took forever to arrive, then just kept coming and coming.
And then you needed up in DC. You both still look the same...and you hubby doesn't look very bundled up. He must be hot blooded?
ReplyDeleteA sweet bear, he was only a couple of years away from living in the frozen north at that time.
DeleteIt is strange to see you both almost clean shaven.
ReplyDeleteOne day I just stopped shaving.
DeleteI remember these photos. They made me smile this time, too.
ReplyDeleteI have used these before
DeleteI love hot, fresh naan bread. Haven't had it for quite awhile.
ReplyDeleteIt snowed in DC, the restaurant was packed, and the service was slow, but once it started it never seemed to stop.
DeleteThat was a most memorable trip. Not the least because Continental changed the destination of our flight during the layover. There were people who were in the plane who had to be told the flight was now going to Chicago instead of DC. We never flew Continental again after that.
ReplyDeleteThat was a once in a lifetime experience. I also saw DC in the snow for the first time, walking the Mall in twilight with snow falling, rode the Metro for the first time, met many of your fellow wizards for the first time. The hotel we stayed in was torn down last year.
DeleteThose of us living in warm climates take a while to get accustomed to colder places. It can be done obviously, it just takes a while.
ReplyDeleteAnd it takes a few years for a northerner to get used to a normal climate, or life in the near tropics (aka the big swamp.)
DeleteI imagine snow after Florida would be shocking!
ReplyDeleteA bit of a surprise, we had a dusting of snow here this week.
Delete30 years ago. My sons where starting school.
ReplyDeleteGeographically, Florida to Cleveland to Washington D.C. doesn't make sense but that is true of lots of things. I admire that fact that the two of you stuck together through the years.
ReplyDeletewhat fun to see pictures of you past selves !
