Travel Tuesday - Hollywood

Another random spin of the memory files, I spoke at the National LBGT Bar Association Lavender Law Conference in Hollywood one summer.  Oddly I only have about 40 photos from that trip. The one of the famous sign, appears to be the only one of the sign.  I didn't allow enough free time on that trip.

I met a transgender judge at the conference.  She was from Texas, elected to the bench as he, transitioned to she, and reelected in a landslide.

While I was there, I walked Hollywood Boulevard to the corner of Hollywood and Vine, saw Grauman's Chinese Theater, took the subway across town to Union Station and went to the home of the French Dip Sandwich.  So I did a few things, but I didn't take enough photos.  I should go back.

  1. Was in LA area once and that was enough. I'm definitely more a Northern California person.

  2. Fun to see but I’m glad I never lived there. Closest we got to living there was Marina del Rey... and that was TOO close. Not an LA kind of person myself, although it’s a great place to visit. I can’t believe I never took a single picture around town.

    2. When we lived in Marina del Rey, cell phones didn‘t exist. We had a neighbor (argh, so many starlets and Hollywood types... Chuck Woolery lived there) ... anyway, the neighbor would sit by the pool with a huge attache case that contain a huge phone. He loved to show off. But we were in LA a lot in later years -- long after the advent of smart phones. Don’t know why I never thought to take a picture.

    3. My first office issued phone, weighed in at about 15 pounds, and the battery lasted about 3 hours.

Like one Trip Advisor question asks, is Hollywood a good place to visit? Friendly locals, nice weather, good public transport, a nice family place?

    1. Odd locals, insufficient public transit, miserable traffic, great weather, the Manson family kind of place

  4. I have been to LA, and Hollywood, several times and always found it a lot of fun; oddballs abound and I love an oddball. Plus, there are so many iconic sites.

  5. About 3 years ago, I stayed at a Kimpton hotel on Wilshire Blvd. and visited the Getty Museum and LACMA and hung out on the edge of Beverly Hills. That was a fun weekend.

  7. I've never visited Hollywood, per se. We've been to Universal Studios on several occasions (Balder Half's favorite tourist attraction) but that's about it. We were heading to the Sunset Strip once with visiting friends, and got rear ended on the freeway. I was twelve months pregnant (It was summer, very hot, and I was huge) and scared the crap out of the folks that hit us when I got out. We turned around and went back to San Diego. I loathe L.A. traffic!

    1. And the subway system is kinda limited. I hope you were okay, you were a little overdue.

    2. I didn't even know that L.A. had a subway system until I saw the movie Speed. I really wasn't that pregnant. It was my first and I just felt that way. I had about four months to go, I think. That was 45 years ago. I can't remember 2 minutes ago very clearly.
