Sunday Five - Cars

  1. Have you ever owned more than one car at the same time?
  2. Is there a car you parted with, that you wish you had back?
  3. Are there bumper stickers, or decals on your car?
  4. Can you imagine living without a car?
  5. Have you ever had to have a car towed because of a mechanical breakdown?
My Answers:

  1. Have you ever owned more than one car at the same time? In the dying moments of my first marriage, both cars were in my name, and I now own two.
  2. Is there a car you parted with, that you wish you had back? I owned a mid 1980's Mazda station wagon (estate car) it was simple, reliable, I have often wished I had kept it.
  3. Are there bumper stickers, or decals on your car? No. Seldom if ever
  4. Can you imagine living without a car? It would be possible but not convenient where we live now.
  5. Have you ever had to have a car towed because of a mechanical breakdown? Twice, a broken fan belt, and a battery so dead the car wouldn't stay running when started.
Please share your answers in the comments.

    1. Briefly when I had bought a car and not sold the old one yet.
    2. No, though I have fond memories of them all.
    3. No.
    4. Gleefully. I dislike driving in congested local road and worse freeways with heavy traffic.
    5. Yes, My Humber Super Snipe a couple of times. Once was very serious.

    1. I forgot about that, I bought a car from an estate once, then sold what I had been driving privately, owned two for a week or so.

Can you imagine living without a car? Yes. Have done so a few different times.
Have you ever had to have a car towed because of a mechanical breakdown? Yes. We didn´t use our fairly new Prius here for a few months and the battery died.

    1. Cars do need to be driven. James May has a video online about the battery dyeing in this Tesla when it sat in the garage over the winter,

  3. 1. just for a day or two during transitions of old to new. But only for a week or so
    2. not really. though I've really liked 2-3 of my cars, including the current one.
    3. Not on this one. My last was an Obama magnet (not sticker) for his 2008 election.
    4. I can completely imagine it, but I'd have to live in a bigger city with better public transport.
    5. Twice. My 1971 Maverick (on what was to be the first date, 36+ yrs ago, I'd go on with my now husband). Second was a Volvo wagon, cracked oil pan, drove car and engine froze.

  4. Have you ever owned more than one car at the same time? Several times, but now that Carlos doesn't drive we have just one.

Is there a car you parted with, that you wish you had back? My first car was a 1969 VW Bug and I would like it back for purely sentimental reasons.

Are there bumper stickers, or decals on your car? An HRC Equality sticker. I've had one on all my cars.

Can you imagine living without a car? I would actually like that, though it might be difficult.

Have you ever had to have a car towed because of a mechanical breakdown? I had a Mazda 626 quit on me once. That was it.

    1. I tried to buy a bug once, it was cut up to make a dune buggy before I was able to get the deal done.

  5. 1 to 4: No.
    5. Only once when my alternator quit, but luckily I was only down the street from a repair shop so the tow didn't cost a fortune.

    1. All communities should be walkable, few are.

  8. 1. My first new car was in 2000 - I was 29 and Jeffrey and I purchased it together. We shared one car for the first 10 years we were together, but had to purchase a second car when it was no longer possible for us to carpool to and from work together. We have since owned two cars, both in both our names, but he picked out one and drives it, I picked out the other and drive it. I have never owned two cars on my own (and never would) but technically, I do (co)own two cars.

    2. I loved my 2007 Nissan versa and miss it to this day.

    3. No bumper stickers, but I do have a rainbow triangle cling in the middle of my back windshield.

    4. For medical reasons - No.

    5. Yes. Twice. Uggh.

    1. My first "new" new car, was 1982 or 1983, then 1990, 1992, 1994, 2012. I have owned a lot of cars, a lot of used cars.

  9. 1. Yes. We've owned until recently up to five. It's back down to two.
    2. Yes, my 1978 Chevy Impala station wagon. I got my license in that car when I was 23. I learned to drive in it because BH got a little tipsy with his best friend and decided I needed a new car. It sat for a few months until I realized, oh well, I may as well learn to drive it. Kept it for twenty years. That laydown back seat was a lot of fun when we'd take a short break from throwing papers.
    3. Nope.
    4. I can imagine quite vividly living without a car. Grocery shopping is hard, though.
    5. My Triple A card has a lot of mileage on it! The tow drivers started to recognize me and my car (not the Impala). I can't count how many times I've been towed.
