Travel Tuesday: From the mists of time

A couple of weeks ago, it was a glorious foggy morning, the kind of fog that stops air traffic, and makes driving hazardous. The weather was cool, but not cold, I waited until about 9 AM and then headed out to Mt Vernon for a walk.

George Washington had a conservatory, this is based on a later conservatory.

What wonderful colors.

When I was in high school a teacher was showing a photo with water droplets hanging from branches,
I commented that it takes patience to find the right moment for those shots, and she said, "just take a hose and wet things down." I didn't manipulate the scene, this is what I saw. Somehow I lost respect for that teacher.
Planting spring bulbs in the upper garden.

The Camel's name is Aladdin.  His keeper replaced the doors in my condo shortly after I moved in. Aladdin does special appearances.

These will lamb early in the spring.

The Lower Garden (Kitchen garden.)

A very well mannered school group.

An Apple tree in the upper garden.

  1. I love a good foggy morning and yesterday morning we had one of which you speak. So pretty! I love the little titmouse on the ground. It still cracks me up that there is a camel and penguin at Mt Vernon.

  2. Looks like a peaceful morning for a walk. Fog will do that. I wonder if that’s one of those native Mt. Vernon camels. I thought they were extinct.

    1. Aladdin is from out around Ashburn, Virginia

    2. Happily, the Ashburn Camels survived. (We have a friend who refers to Ashburn as ass-burn)

    3. That’s fascinating, because Camels are a blend of Turkish and Virginia tobacco. So it makes sense.

  3. Your camera lens needs cleaning, or did I miss a crucial sentence.
Wasn't your teacher trying to be helpful by recreating a photo subject?

    1. The teacher presented the photo as something that was natural, and it was manipulated.

  4. I love the kind of rustic fencing shown in the camel photo. In the first travel penguin picture, your little penguin seems to be sitting upon an enormous egg! Well done Little Penguin! It must have hurt to squeeze that sucker out.

    1. If that was an egg, it is bigger than the bird.

  6. I love walking in the fog. It's peaceful, sounds are muted, there's beauty in the grayness.

  9. Wow, what a fantastic set of photos. I love them all but especially that gorgeous blue jay and the water droplets. I do enjoy photos in the fog.

  10. What a wonderful day for a tour. Did you see Washington's ghost in the fog? Maybe the Travel Penguin saw him and isn't telling.

    1. If I take my time and keep my mind and eyes open, I can find great images without fiddling with mother nature.
