The Sunday Five: What Do We Wear

1: I recently revealed in a comment, that about 100 pounds ago I owned a pair of black leather shorts, booty shorts would be an accurate description.  What is the most embarrassing item of clothing you have ever worn?

2: What item of clothing from your past would you like to own again (in a size that fits you today)?

3: What is the oldest item of clothing that you still wear and any special history on it?

4: Do you follow fashion trends?

5: What is most important in how you dress?

My Answers:

1: I recently revealed in a comment, that about 100 pounds ago I owned a pair of black leather shorts, booty shorts would be an accurate description.  Looking back at it, what is the most embarrassing item of clothing you have ever worn?  Obviously the leather shorts, I did look good in them back then.

2: What item of clothing from your past would you like to own again (in a size that fits you today)?  I had a Wrangler Denim jacket in the 1970s that fit well and was durable. I have tried to find one like it that fits.

3: What is the oldest item of clothing that you still wear and any special history on it? I have a navy blue Scottish wool sweater that I bought in London in May of 1990, that I still wear, still looks good.

4: Do you follow fashion trends? A little, I liked the Barbour diamond quilted vests at Nordstroms, and found the knock off on Amazon, in olive green, it is probably the most fashionable thing I own.

5: What is most important in how you dress? Comfort above all else.

  1. I can never be called a fashion maven. I have never aspired to be, actually. I like comfort. In winter, I like warmth. I had a long denim coat that fell to my ankles. I felt awesome in that. I also remember some gauze indian shirts that were comfortable and came in many different colors.

    1. Comfort is more important than style.

  2. 1. A pair of boxer shorts with the already short legs rolled up further.
    2. Tight revealing white jeans, but what would be revealing would be rather different to what was revealing 45 years ago.
    3. Nothing.
    4. A little in so far as I buy what is fashionable at the time, but then I am inclined to wear it too long.
    5. I like to look a little stylish but comfort is important too.

  3. 1: I recently revealed in a comment, that about 100 pounds ago I owned a pair of black leather shorts, booty shorts would be an accurate description. What is the most embarrassing item of clothing you have ever worn? When I was around 9, I put taps on the heels of my black school shoes. I wore them that way once and had to deliver something to another classroom. I walked on my toes!
2: What item of clothing from your past would you like to own again (in a size that fits you today)? I had a seriously cool patterned corduroy shirt that had been my father’s in the 1940s. It was flattened and faded and I was still wearing it in the early 1970s. People commented on it every time I wore it. Then a friend offered to patch some areas. She somehow lost the shirt. I still miss it.
3: What is the oldest item of clothing that you still wear and any special history on it? I have two sweaters that my mother made for my father in 1948 and 1949. They’re snug and now fit in a modern tight Spanish style.
4: Do you follow fashion trends? Not like I used to, but I have my moments.
5: What is most important in how you dress? Comfort and making me feel good about myself.

  5. 1. Maybe my shirt that said 'So Many Gerbils, So Little Time'. But I regret nothing!
    2. I can't think of anything I'd want back.
    3. Loyola sweatshirt. I didn't go there, but I was in Chicago in 1996 for a conference and was freezing as I walked around town. I stopped in the campus bookstore and bought a sweatshirt. It's pushing 30 years old.
    4. Nah. You get to a certain age where you don't care about that, or the clothing industry don't care about people my age.
    5. It's for comfort first. Maybe warmth, depending on the season. Style is in there, but lower on the list.

    1. The fashion industry does not think anyone with over a 34 inch waist should wear their clothes.

  6. 1: I recently revealed in a comment, that about 100 pounds ago I owned a pair of black leather shorts, booty shorts would be an accurate description. What is the most embarrassing item of clothing you have ever worn? I suppose a "sulu" in Fiji. You had to wear one for traditional dancing. Essentially just a length of brightly coloured cloth that you tied around your waist.
2: What item of clothing from your past would you like to own again (in a size that fits you today)? Corduroy Levi jeans - cream and navy blue coloured
3: What is the oldest item of clothing that you still wear and any special history on it? Mmm...Let me see.I have three casual shirts that my late mother bought for me in the late nineties. She died in 2007 after spending two years in an old folks' home. I still wear those shirts today.
4: Do you follow fashion trends? Absolutely not! Only a fool would do that!
5: What is most important in how you dress? That I am comfortable and have remembered to zip up my flyhole. Don't want the horse looking out of the stable!

1: I recently revealed in a comment, that about 100 pounds ago I owned a pair of black leather shorts, booty shorts would be an accurate description. What is the most embarrassing item of clothing you have ever worn? I wore a Nehru jacket when I was a kid; I thought I looked fabulous.

2: What item of clothing from your past would you like to own again (in a size that fits you today)? I had a great, what I call a vampire coat, that I wore eons ago after finding it in a thrift store for ten bucks. I'd like that back please.

3: What is the oldest item of clothing that you still wear and any special history on it? I have a suit jacket from back in the day that I also found thirting--I believe it was less than a dollar. It had a groovy lining--that's the only way to describe it--and I hand-painted each sleeve with words and designs. It still hangs in my closet!

4: Do you follow fashion trends? Not really; I wear what I like and throw in new stuff if I feel the urge.

5: What is most important in how you dress? Comfort, but style.

    2. I can't think of any.

What is the most embarrassing item of clothing you have ever worn? I guess it would be the very first mini skirt I wore. I was ahead of the curve on that fashion trend and some people were not ready to see that much leg.
2: What item of clothing from your past would you like to own again (in a size that fits you today)? A dress my mother made for me to go with a special pair of shoes I had. It was a combination of light blue and navy blue and I loved it.
3: What is the oldest item of clothing that you still wear and any special history on it? A Quincy College sweatshirt. I bought it on a visit back to my home town around 1982. I wear it all the time and it's as good as new.

5: What is most important in how you dress? These days, it's is it warm enough.
