My Music Monday : Good Vibrations the Lost Studio Footage

I don't know why, but I find something magic about watching music being recorded in the studio.  There is an alchemy of instruments and music, the musicians are less concerned about appearances than when on stage, and allow their passion for the music consume them. One of the father's of the Beach Boys was a stage father, strict, controlling, demanding, but also a promoter.  I believe he shot this, likely with a 16mm Bolex - I own one of those - I have never used it.  He was their manager, until they fired him - so they could let their passion rule their music.

  1. I’m with you. Watching the work being done in the studio can be exciting. This is an especially good one. Have you even seen Elaine Stritch and Stephen Sondheim perfecting ”Here’s to the Ladies Who Lunch”?

You've made me think for a moment, as unaccustomed to that as I am, about how an opera or classical music might despise music such as this, never mind modern dance music. The person does not realise how much effort goes into creating more recent music. I've not heard of the camera brand Bolex.

    1. Bolex made the classic 16 mm movie camera of the 1950's. Queen Elizabeth II was given one as a wedding gift.

  6. I'm with Maddie. I was never a Beach Boy fan so I I can't. But that Stritch Sondheim thing sounds right up my alley!
