Sunday Five - Last Minute Change of Plans

When we were in Washington state last summer, we had plans to take a ferry across the strait to British Columbia, a short day trip, over in the morning, wander around, have lunch and back in the afternoon.  The night before J had trouble sleeping.  It happens sometimes. It well into the wee hours of the morning before he was solidly asleep.  I got up the next morning, leaving him to sleep and went for a walk, watched the morning ferry come and go, and made reservations for an afternoon whale watching tour. It turned out to be a spectacular afternoon.

This weeks Sunday five:
1: Do you sometimes change plans and sleep late?
2: Have you ever cancelled a trip at the last minute?
3: Have you ever left home on a trip, and not known where you were going?
4: What do you do if you find a museum or attraction is unexpectedly closed?
5: As you get older, are you more flexible, or more likely to be upset when things change at the last minute?

My answers:
1: Do you sometimes change plans and sleep late? Obviously, I have been known to declare a day off in the middle of a trip.
2: Have you ever cancelled a trip at the last minute? Only a few times, a couple of times because of work issues, once because of health, and a couple of trips this year because of  - well you know.
3: Have you ever left home on a trip, and not known where you were going? I have written about this once before. Back in the summer of 1990 I was living in Florida, I bought a new Honda Accord, I took a week off and started driving north uncertain if I was going to the mountains of western North Carolina or up the east coast.  Someplace in Georgia I stayed on I-95 and ended up in Washington DC.
4: What do you do if you find a museum or attraction is unexpectedly closed? Walk around the corner to see what we would have missed if the museum had been open.
5: As you get older, are you more flexible, or more likely to be upset when things change at the last minute? I have mellowed, I am more flexible than I was before - I must have been a real pain when I was younger.

2.Once several years ago because of an illness and of course, about two months ago.
    3. I've only done that around or near town. I love to just get in the car and drive with no destination in mind.
    4. Head somewhere else or walk the neighborhood.
    5. Much more flexible.

    1. Thanks, I think this is the best photo from the trip, there was only one whale, and he/she was not real active.

  4. "I have mellowed, I am more flexible than I was before - I must have been a real pain when I was younger." For the sake of my marriage, I will only say that this does seem to be the case. 😘

  5. 1: Do you sometimes change plans and sleep late? I have been known to do that.

2: Have you ever cancelled a trip at the last minute? Just once, but it was an emergency. And we rescheduled for a few months later.

3: Have you ever left home on a trip, and not known where you were going? Not on a vacation, but on a day trip we sometimes like to see where the road takes us.

4: What do you do if you find a museum or attraction is unexpectedly closed? It's a bummer, but generally there's something else to do, especially if it's a trip to someplace I've never been.

5: As you get older, are you more flexible, or more likely to be upset when things change at the last minute? We try to stay flexible, otherwise a trip can be ruined.

  6. 1: Do you sometimes change plans and sleep late? Since retirement, I have fewer plans! If we have an appointment, I shut off the alarm when it rings and get out of bed immediately. If we have nothing planned, I still set the alarm (don't have any idea why), but I will often turn it off an sleep longer. Weirdly, if I get up naturally, I feel worse than when I get out of bed immediately when the alarm goes off.
2: Have you ever cancelled a trip at the last minute? I don't think so.
3: Have you ever left home on a trip, and not known where you were going? No, I am an extreme planner, and if we are headed somewhere I have the itinerary worked out, what I will wear each day, etc. A real type A.
4: What do you do if you find a museum or attraction is unexpectedly closed? Find something else to do.
5: As you get older, are you more flexible, or more likely to be upset when things change at the last minute? Probably less flexible, which is saying something, because I was pretty inflexible before!

  7. I quit setting alarm clocks about 11 years ago, only use one if I have an early meeting or flight. Surprisingly the world didn't end, when I quit setting a clock.

  8. 1: Do you sometimes change plans and sleep late? Absolutely.
2: Have you ever cancelled a trip at the last minute? Yep.
3: Have you ever left home on a trip, and not known where you were going? We've often headed out for a drive during the day and randomly chosen someplace to stop, but we've never done an overnighter without planning.
4: What do you do if you find a museum or attraction is unexpectedly closed? We find something else to do.
5: As you get older, are you more flexible, or more likely to be upset when things change at the last minute? Definitely more flexible.

    1. The week long trip without a clear destination in mind, was unusual for me. Based on when and who I was traveling with, I was probably unsuccessfully searching for happiness.
