The Way We Were Wednesday - To The Moon

I remember the Apollo launches, the first landing on the moon, Neil Armstrong's words as he first stepped onto the moon.  I was across the river from the space center for the first shuttle launch.  I watched with great interest two months ago the SpaceX launch of astronauts from the USA for the first time since the shuttle stopped flying.

  1. I never got space travel. I wonder what's out there, but think money could be better spent on things of need here. Humans don't need another plant to destroy.

    1. Interesting point, the same could be spent for the over half of the federal budget that is spent on the military.

  2. John Glen was my idol when I was a kid. I remember the moon landing and those first steps. After that, it became a blur. My teen and 20s hippiedom was supposed to find it all uncool, and I did. I remember being awed by the first shuttle flight return and landing. Now it all seems to get absorbed in the rest of the news.

    1. I missed last weekends, return to earth, by a couple of minutes, but was able to watch them lift the capsule onto the recovery ship and open the hatch.

    1. The counter was all of the spin off engineering and technology, pushing the limits to learn that there are few limits.

  4. I've never seen a launch in person. That must have been impressive. A few years ago, I went to New Mexico to tour Spaceport America. I was fascinated. I'd love to go again.

    1. I lived in central Florida for 20 some years, through the heart of the Shuttle program. The heavy lanches are a whole body experience, you can feel it, hear it, see it.
