Pretty Bird

Makes me wonder in a landscape of green, and brown, why is the cardinal red? Cardinals have a feisty reputation, they are said to be very protective of their nests.  They are so visible they would have to be.  There are a lot of cardinal in the Marsh, my morning meanderings.  There are a few near the entrance, another grouping just past the big bend.  I wonder if they know one another.  I have heard that birds maintain their balance while they sleep, amazing.

If you could ask the cardinal one questions, what would it be?

  1. why do you peep and not sing, like the other birdies? your peep IS distinctive, as is your coloring.

  2. They do have quite loud chirps and raising whistles. And with cardinals both parents raise, feed and protect the young unlike a lot of other birds. The male is even known to even feed the female. I have several pairs.

  3. No question. They are an attractive bird and we don't have them here.

  4. We used to love to see the cardinals in our gardens in Connecticut, especially I early spring against the gray and height backdrop. I have no questions.

  5. I'd ask them where they are hiding. We have cardinals here but I see them rarely.

    2. The birds were, in fact, named after the ecclesiastics because of their color.
