Not That Tube - You Tube

Okay, maybe it is social distancing, maybe I had a minor YouTube habit before lock down, but I have to admit, my name is David, and I can watch YouTube for hours per week.
The latest obsession started innocently, with a documentary series on Amazon Prime Video titled "Travels by Narrowboat."  His boat has a classic low RPM diesel engine, I could listen to it's gentle thump-thump-thump for hours, and he has like hours of videos on Prime.  When I exhausted that, I did a search on YouTube, found a few more videos from Travels by Narrowboat, and discovered that there are a couple of dozen people posting videos on YouTube about narrowboat travel in England.  One of my favorites is Cruising the Cut, https://www.youtube.com/c/CruisingTheCutUKHe has a website www.cruisingthecut.co.uk.  The channel is produced by a former television news reporter.  He knows how to tell a short story, how to shoot video, how to edit. He has been on his boat 3 or 4 years and is prolific, at the moment he has 222 videos, averaging about 15 minutes, you can watch his stuff for hours, believe me I have.  When you run out of his, there is The Narrowboat Experience (two ladies and two cats,) Foxes Afloat (two men in the process of building their second new boat) and many more.

What are you watching this summer?

This long boat thing must be catching. I began watching an Australian couple who were long boating in England but they then returned home. I discovered solo long boater Robbie Cumming maybe three years ago and he is just terrific. He is humorous, wears his heart on his sleeve at times, not bad looking and apparently the BBC was so impressed he is now making a second series to be screened there later this year.

    1. Narrowboat Chef on YouTube is a young couple of Australia, she webmaster for a business in Australia, he is a trained chef, kind of round and goofy and strangely cute, and their little dog "Pixel." They are very laid back, her parents also have a boat.

  3. ... the days pass until the end of August and the tourists go home. Also, The Godfather of Harlem after finishing Sharp Objects and before that Little Fires Everywhere. SG is hooked on YouTube and introduced me to those narrow boat shows. Fascinating.

  6. I don't watch many YouTube videos except for the occasional instructional guide. Lately I've been looking at a couple of art technique guides.

  8. I don't YouTube myself. I get things sent to me by my sister, usually funny stuff. Oh, I do look at Randy Rainbow's stuff.
What I've reluctantly gotten into this summer is HBO's Perry Mason. It drags a bit but the acting is wonderful. It's very noir and takes place in the early thirties. I had to wash all memories of Raymond Burr out of my head. Spoiler alert- Perry's a reprobate at the start, Paul Drake is Black, Della Street is a lesbian and from the looks of things so far, Hamilton Burger is gay also. Very understated. I used to read the books but this is supposed to be an origins story.

    1. I think we dropped HBO, I indulge in Amazon Prime from time to time. I know JB has made a mountain of money, but Amazon does such amazing things, and he bought and bankrolled the Washington Post, likely to irritate he who must not be named - what a wonderful thing to do with a few hundred million dollars.

  9. I watch youtube videos too. Lately I've been watching anti-Trump ads made by Republicans. They are great to watch. Have you heard of the Lincoln Project? They have some scorcher ads against Trump, and the Lincoln Project's head is Kelly Anne Conway's husband!
