What Have I Been Up To?

I went to the office one morning last week, I had not been in since March 17th, there were a couple of things I needed from there, and the office mail had not been sorted through since March 16th. I drove in, traffic was not bad, there were four people in 250 offices on our floor. I don't plan to go back anytime soon.

I have been walking, long thinking walks.  The gardens at Mt. Vernon reopened with limited attendance.  I went out for a walk, but was disappointed at the people not wearing a mask around other people. Mostly I am walking near home, often without going outside of the fence.

I had some work done on the convertible.  It was due for an oil change,  the windshield washers had quit squirting and when I bought it the sound insulation on the underside of the hood was loose.  That and a through detail cost way to much money, but everything works and it is a wonderful time of the year to put the top down.  I drove it into the office the other day.

I have Covid hair.  My last haircut was in January. The salon I had been going to has not opened, I doubt they will, they had been struggling a bit.  I wonder where Jose will go, he was very good.  In the meantime I have not had hair like this since the early 1980's, I am thinking about letting it grow and seeing how wild it can get.

I bought a new rug for under my desk chair at home to replace one that was starting to wear through.  I love old worn rugs, but the roughness under my chair and bare feet was disturbing.

I am taking proper lunch breaks for the first time in my professional career. 40 years ago, when I often worked alone in an office that served the public, I got into the habit of eating at my desk, and working through lunch. I am now leaving my desk, going in the other room and taking a break.  The experts are right, I do get more done with a decent mid day break.

So what are you up to these days?

Locked down again, so very little at all. I am pleased to have had our short break away and a couple of meals out.

  2. I have yet to be called back. The store is now open but very limited hours...only about 40 people back. Mostly curbside.

I have visited my friend pearl in Ptown and stayed at house with her. Luckily not crowded. Otherwise I mostly blog, cook, daily jog around lake, volunteer at ASPCA, sit outside. Currently at mother's. I did get ticket for Longwoods Gardens to break up the monotonous time....they have strict guidelines and MASK MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. Bravo to them!!!!! I'm surprised My Vernon didn't instill this rule.

  3. The mask issue is so angering. Even here where it’s law, some people don’t and must be reminded... or even fined. Makes me want to spend more time at home.

  4. knitting, reading, listening to classical music, staying in touch with my friends via their blogs. staying safe, only venturing to the grocery store.

masks are mandatory in public places in this state per our gov. no mask, no entry.

I managed to get a haircut last week, a first since feb. many precautions in place; I was the only one in the shop, other than the stylist. I felt safe.

we have been doing local restaurant delivery/pickup once or twice per week.

    1. We do have law here...but tell that to the See U Next Tuesday lady at Lowe's the other day. My mother asked a woman if she knew it was policy to where a mask for her and her kids in the store. They were the only ones with out one. Her reply was " Mind you own business you old bitch." Good thing i was not there....it would have gotten VERY UGLY!!!! People in our area seem to be better with the mask thing. I see many up here not wearing them. Dumb shits.

    2. At Mt Vernon, a mask is required for entry, then they disappear. I have been shy about asking people to put masks on.

    3. I used to travel...now I am very good at the dirty look up and down, the "if looks could kill look." I'm on the verge of saying something though.....

    4. once you get out of the philly burbs, the ignorant rednecks think the rules don't apply to them. I would have bitchslapped that whore that yelled at your mama so hard her eyes would be in back of her fucking head.

  5. Back at work part-time, and a lot of that from home.
Working in the year and on the house.
Staying close, staying safe, staying away from folks who don't mask up.

    1. Good to hear, I have been surprised at how much of our work can be done remotely, we are wondering why we spend $100,000+ a year to lease office space (prime DC space is outrageously expensive.)

  6. Watching an awful lot of MSNBC, working on jigsaw puzzles, reading my usual blogs [including yours!], taking naps, eating meals ... I live in a senior residence and we HAVE to wear masks when leaving our apartments and going outside!
I go for groceries when I need to pick something up!! It's pretty much life-as-usual for me ... except for wearing the mask and I think I'll be wearing one for quite some time to come!
Stay safe ... continue to be KIND ... wear the damned mask!

  7. Retired for the last twelve years, so I'm used to staying home. I miss going out to eat, but we are losing weight and saving money by eating at home. I've gone for three haircuts since the lockdown was eased--very strict safety protocols in place. Groceries delivered, a few relatives have visited from the driveway; we're staying put and staying safe.

Sounds boring, but as long as I have a computer and real books to read, I am never bored. No offense to anyone, butmas long as I can still hold a book in my hands, I will not read them electronically. I DO listen to unabridged recorded books via my phone or on CDs. I almost always have a book I am reading, and an audio book going when I am doing mundane tasks like preparing meals or getting ready in the morning. Right now I am listening to Save Me the Plums by Ruth Reichl about her time as the last editor-in-chief of Gourmet magazine. Fascinating story.

    1. That is a great book, I read it on my Kindle last year. I told J about a book I would like for my birthday and asked for it in print, asked if I was sure I wanted paper - The Art of French Drinking, I need that one on paper.

  8. I'm entertaining myself with little things, like how you went right from talking about your Covid-19 hair to your rug!
I stay in because BH goes out. We're sticking to the one person per family out of the house rule. Since he has to work anyway, it may as well be him.
I'm "lucking out" next week because I get to not only see my rheumatologist but also my retinologist. Another eye injection to look forward too! YAY!
They're coming to take me away, ha ha.

  9. I am in my office as I write this. I've had some computer issues that have caused me to go into my office the last two weeks. I feel completely safe here. There are probably on 4 people on my entire floor, we wear masks when ever we leave our offices and they have one person who is constantly sanitizing handles, switches and counter tops all day long.
It's going to go up to 116 degrees this weekend so I'll be staying at home all weekend...again!

  10. In between walking the dog and cooking, anguishing over how too many people are no longer taking the virus seriously and think it has gone away. Looking forward to going to France in a couple of weeks' time, as we have been away, not out of choice for far too long. France has fared much better than the UK because the govt there locked down earlier and harder with better enforcement. We will feel safer and less anxious there I think.

  11. Good for you for your thinking walks!
My walks are marred by being focused on podcast and pooches. I should go for a thinking walk as well.
