St. Malo

This is the walled city of St. Malo on the west coast of France. It is delightful.  When we were planning a trip to Normandy and Brittany 8 years ago, we got to talking to the cheesemonger at our local gourmet market.  Turns out he was from France, he said you have to go to St. Malo.  He was right, the drive there along the coast was spectacular, and the old walled city is charming.

Maybe I should buy lottery tickets.  There is a 10,000 sq. ft., fixer upper available for sale in St. Malo for $3.5-million.  It has been gutted and is ready to be finished out inside to the taste of the buyer. I bet it even has parking.

Would you come visit?

I sure will and I will pay as a guest. It is interesting how a personal recommendation can so often turn out so well, although frankly I am not sure your photo does the town good service, although by the number of cars and people, it is busy.

    1. It is hard to do justice to the village in pictures.

    2. It’s surrounded by a huge visitor parking lot. Cars of non-residents aren’t allowed inside the walls.

  2. I’ve heard about the city from others but have never been there. Did you ever get to see it under clear skies? I decided yesterday I also need to win the lottery (buying a ticket would help).

  3. Bet it would be totally worth the trip.
I've never been to France, but it's cities like this that would be on my list from the beginning!

    XOXO

  5. I have never had any desire to travel to any where in Europe, or anywhere else for that matter. No I wouldn't visit, even on a cruise. Funnily, I just received my DNA results yesterday, and it turns out that from the past 5 generations I'm 88% European and 12% African (which explains my lack of butt and nappy hair, respectively) yet I still don't want to go.
