Celebrate Your Body -

The sister of one of my high school classmates, posted something on FB that made me, stop, slap my forehead and go, I got that all wrong.  Her comment was that exercise, going to gym, or simply walking across the room, is not penance or punishment for something you ate, it is a celebration of being able to move your body.  I had fallen into the trap of seeing my daily hour at the gym, as the price I had to pay for being indulgent.

Attitude makes a difference.

So celebrate, move, across the room, across the park, across the town.  Walk, run or roll, move your body.  It is the only one you have.  Your body won't reward you for leaving it idle.  You can't save it up, for later, it only stays active, by being active.  Every small movement is a victory over stagnation.

Have you been good to yourself today?

  1. I am getting better at moving around; the MD's leg treatments are helping. one more month of treatments and I hope to ditch the cane.

and I ordered some all-natural soap from a local woman-owned business (www.mariessoap.com); my body is digging all that moisture! and I currently smell like sage/rosemary/lavender!

  2. I’m always moving and love exercise and walking miles daily. Even on days with no gym workout, I’m moving. Heading to Málaga now to spend hours walking around the city. I figure I’ll keep active for as long as I can.

  3. I move around with a rollator at home and a walker when I am out. Going to PT this afternoon for more movement. With MS, it's move or give up. Not an option!

  4. I was good to myself today. I stayed in bed until 7:00. I'm usually awake around four or five. No reason. It's not like I have anywhere to be. My ex daughter-in-law is a personal trainer. Going to the gym was torture and a punishment and nobody can convince me otherwise! I don't care if she is a black woman, she is pure Gestapo when it comes to fitness! I was her biggest challenge and her greatest failure. I take a certain amount of pride in that :)

    1. I have refused to work with a few personal trainers, that think that there is only one way to do things, and that pushing to pain is necessary. Do what you can, do what leaves you feeling well, enjoy the body you have and don't let anyone try to force change.

    1. Any movement, even if it is waiving your hands, a celebration of being able to move.

  7. Funny you should mention this. I just heard a podcast about exercise. The expert said she first talks to her clients about 'what does exercise mean to you" often it is a chore, obligation, a sort of punishment for enjoying yourself.
