The Sunday Five - Flying

I love airplanes, I love flying.  This weeks Sunday five is about things that fly.
1: Have you ever flown in a the Queen of the Sky, a 747?
2: Have you ever flown in a single engine airplane?
3: Would you know the difference between a piston engine airplane and a turbo-prop?
4: Have you ever flown in a helicopter?
5: Have you ever flown in a lighter than air aircraft?

My Answers:
1: Have you ever flown in a the Queen of the Sky, a 747? Three times
2: Have you ever flown in a single engine airplane? Grew up in them
3: Would you know the difference between a piston engine airplane and a turbo-prop? Yup
4: Have you ever flown in a helicopter? Twice
5: Have you ever flown in a lighter than aircraft? A Zeppelin

Please share your answers in the comments.

    1. Yes, a number of times in a 747. They always seemed old and shabby. I've flown with plenty of queens in the sky too, if that counts.
    2. Yes, briefly to land on a glacier in New Zealand. I won't do it again. I wouldn't feel safe in a small plane.
    3. I know what a piston engine but I don't really know what a turbo-prop is. Thinking, it must mean it propels like a large plane.
    4. Once in a chopper over Niagara Falls.
    5. I've dreamt I was a gliding bird but even a bird is not lighter than air. I'm impressed with your bravery at flying in a Zeppelin. I've seen what happens to them.

  3. 1. Probably, I never asked for the pedigree.
    2. I seriously doubt it.
    3. Nope.
    4. Hell no! Balder Half has on different occasions. I don't want to puke on anybody and I don't want anybody puking on me. Not to mention crashing into stuff.
5.Lighter than air? I figure anything man made is only lighter than air when caught in a hurricane or something. I am so not into air stuff.

    2. Yes. A friend's father flew them and he took us up many a time.
    3. Probably not? I know I've been in a turbo prop, but not sure what a piston engine is.
    4. No
    5. and no.

    1. A turbo prop is a turbine or jet engine, driving a propellor. Most single engine aircraft use a piston engine, most of them resembling the engine out of an OLD VW Beetle, horizontally opposed, air cooled, four or six cylinder. At a glance, the cowling is shaped differently.

  9. I admire your enjoyment of airplane traveling.
I would travel so much more if I were more at ease with flying. It's the the scare of a crash, but the nasty environment of fellow passengers.
