One of the first things I do every morning, is put my watch back on. If I don't it runs down and stops. This got me to thinking, hence this weeks Sunday five.
- Do you wear a watch, and if so, digital, electric, or mechanical?
- Do you carry a smartphone, and if so do you turn it off at night?
- Have you lived in a home, that didn't have electric lights when it was built?
- Have you owned a television that didn't have a remote control?
- Tell us about your first email account?
My answers:
- Do you wear a watch, and if so, digital, electric, or mechanical? I wear a mechanical watch, a Seiko copy of a famous Swiss self "perpetual" movement in a slick modern case. I love the miniature machine.
- Do you carry a smartphone, and if so do you turn it off at night? Yes, and I turn mine off every night, in fact I don't turn it on every day.
- Have you lived in a home, that didn't have electric lights when it was built? I have not, my parents did, in fact my mother didn't have electricity at home until she was a teenager.
- Have you owned a television that didn't have a remote control? Yes, I can remember the first TV I bought with a remote control in 1982.
- Tell us about your first email account? When I started Law School the University assigned me an email account, followed shortly by a personal account (fall of 1996.)

Do you wear a watch, and if so, digital, electric, or mechanical? I used to wear a watch everyday for work. I have quite the collection of mechanical only watches. Now I only wear one when I go out to run errands.
ReplyDeleteDo you carry a smartphone, and if so do you turn it off at night? Yes. I charge it at night. It's my only phone line, so it stays on the nightstand at night in case their is an emergency of some kind.
Have you lived in a home, that didn't have electric lights when it was built? Nope.
Have you owned a television that didn't have a remote control? Nope. Ever since moving out I've only had two tv's each with remote. I have to see by Brit comedies and murder mysteries.
Tell us about your first email account? My first email account was with yahoo and brace yourself....I've only had it not even 20 years yet!!!!!! And Im terrible about checking it too.
Not counting work or school, I have had two email addresses, and I live on email.
Delete1. yes, analog but battery powered.
ReplyDelete2. no, but I feel cracks forming in my resolve.
3. I think so. It was a house with gas fireplaces and gas lamps on the walls. They didn't work any more, but they must have been there before electricity.
4. oh, yes. Several.
5. I don't remember it.
The guy who sold me my first "smart phone" lied, he said in a week we won't be able to pry it out of your hands, it was only one day. Working at home, I often go 2 or 3 days without turning it on.
DeleteOops! My answer to #2 was misleading. Apologies. I meant that I don't own a smartphone, but I think the day is approaching when I'll no longer be able to resist.
Delete1 No and not for years since my skin developed an allergy to metal, which fortunately coincided with me buying my first phone.
ReplyDelete2 I am never without my phone and it is always on but set to 'do not disturb' between 10pm and 7am. The phone will still ring though.
3 No, always had light.
4 Childhood tvs did not have remotes, but I think since I have owned one it has always been remote controlled.
5 My first email account was with Rocketmail, which was great and later taken over by Yahoo. It was about 1996 too I think.
My middle brother has had a skin allergy for years that makes watches difficult for him.
Delete1 - no
ReplyDelete2 - no
3 - no
4 - yes, in my first apartment in 1977
5 - dial-up internet connection
I remember dial up, how primitive
Delete1. I wore a watch every single day until this pandemic started. Now I rarely put it on. It is electric.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, I have an iPhone and I never turn it off.
3. No, I have never lived without electricity.
4. Yes, I don't think I got remote control until sometime in the 90's.
5. My first email was AOL.
I know a couple of people who still use an AOL email address
DeleteDo you wear a watch, and if so, digital, electric, or mechanical? Electric; and while I am not obsessed with time, it's an accessory I always wear.
ReplyDeleteDo you carry a smartphone, and if so do you turn it off at night? Yes, but it's always on, though at night it is put away.
Have you lived in a home, that didn't have electric lights when it was built? I've lived in a very old home, but it jad lights when it was built.
Have you owned a television that didn't have a remote control? Eons ago.
Tell us about your first email account? Mine, too, was AOL, dial-up.
I have a couple of expensive battery powered watches, that need batteries.
Delete1. I wore a wind up when I was younger, then difgital. I stopped wearing one when I got my first cellphone in 2000. Hubby hardsold me on an Apple watch and i finally caved 2 years ago. it took me awhilw to get used to wearing one again butnow it goes on right after showering and off right before bed (to charge.)
ReplyDelete2. Yes. it is always on me or near me and never gets turned off (other than the recommended occasional hard reset.) We are responsible for my aged, health challenged mother's well being and she has to be able to reach us anytime, day or night, in an emergency. (We do not use a landline phone.)
3. All my homes have had electricity, but ive been in homes without it when i was younger.
4. we didnot have a TV until I was about 10, and our first TVs had no remotes. my first remote control TV was given to me for my first apartment, but I did not have cable and got no reception (I was in the basement) so I never turned it on. Jeffrey had a remote TV when we got together and we've had nothing but ever since.
5. My first email was an AOL account (dial up) then an address through our cable service, then we switched to a Gmail account way back when you had to be invited by someone else and I've used that ever since.

Uggh! Sorry for the typopalooza above. So wish we could edit our comments.
DeleteOne of the reasons I have had the same cell number forever, was it was the number my late number remembered.
DeleteI wear a fit-bit which I call a Tim-bit. I wear it at night to count any steps in the night.
ReplyDeleteMy smart phone serves as my pager so it is on 24/7.
All my homes were later built with electric lights.
As for TV I haven't own one in decades; the last one was a simple on/off knob.
I suppose my first email was with aol.com more I cannot remember.
No Television, there is something I didn't know, how does Someone binge watch law and order?
Delete1. Watch? Yes, runs on a battery.
ReplyDelete2. Smart phone? Yes. I never turn it off.
3. Home with no electricity? No.
4. TV with no remote control? Yes.
5. My first email account was at work. I didn't have a personal email account until I started my blog 12 years ago.
I used my office email for my personal email, for a decade, when I left the job the boss kept the email address. I had to warn her to not open emails from some "vendors!"
DeleteDo you wear a watch, and if so, digital, electric, or mechanical? I have about a dozen watches. Most are battery and since I fell out of the habit of wearing one (since I always have my mobile for the time), by the time I DO put one on, the battery is dead. So I think I now have, again, about a dozen watches with dead batteries.
ReplyDeleteDo you carry a smartphone, and if so do you turn it off at night? I turn my smart phone to vibrate at night.
Have you lived in a home, that didn't have electric lights when it was built? Never
Have you owned a television that didn't have a remote control? My first TV (a 9-inch screen!), when I was 15, had no remote. I actually had that same TV until I was 28. SG was picking me up after work in Santa Monica. I bought a TV during lunch and told him to meet me at the shop to pick it up. What luxury.
Tell us about your first email account? I can't for the life of me remember my very first email account. It would have been a work account. Maybe at Yale in the late '80s.
I remember buying a 12 inch black&white TV to use as a computer monitor in the early 80's.
