Virtual Tourist Radio

The first website site that I created and posted content on was Virtual Tourist, the site closed down in 2017.  Virtual Tourist had tons of user generated content, photos, travel tips and a very active user forum section.  You could go on the site and visit far away places without leaving home.

It seems no one is traveling much this, year, and I have to admit for this travel addict it is not always easy.  I will end the year with fewer than 20 nights in hotels, I haven't had an airline reservation pending since March.  Unheard of.

Somedays I just need to go someplace.  A few months ago John Gray posted a link to a local news story in Wales. The story was on the website of Radio Colwyn Bay, reading the story I discovered that they have a live-stream of local radio. Just what I need some days, local radio, from 3,500 miles away.  Check it out. There is a UK based site with a bunch of online streaming options, it is nice to hear about the traffic jams in London, and the local news that does not make me cringe.

Is there a local radio station in your city I should listen to?

  1. wrti.org plays classical from 6a-6p; 6p-6a is jazz. we have this station on at home and in the car.

  2. I too listen to wrti, and another station, WRDV 89.3. They play the really oldie but goodies, things I have never heard in years! Old songs from the 30'-60's and a mix of everything.

I had an app on my phone that I could use to listen to radio stations all over the world. Sammy J is the presenter of ABC Melbourne breakfast programme and Virginia Trioli is a serious presenter for ABC Melbourne. At 7.36am after the one minute traffic report, they have a four minute chat. I never miss it.
https://www.abc.net.au/radio/melbourne/ with Listen Live at the top.
That would be 4.36pm New York time, which I think is your time.
You could do worse than to listen to Trioli when she comes on fifty minutes later if you want to get a flavour for our city, state and country.
But where are your recommendations for local radio listening in your city?

    1. ABC on the other side of the world is American Broadcast Company, one of the original broadcast TV services. I am listening to radio melbourne at the moment.

  4. I don't listen to the radio anymore. All static, all the time. Now, between cds when I'm driving some distance, I'll find an oldies station to listen to, sometimes they're out there :)

    1. In the car I listen to CDs, at home streaming music, now streaming radio from far away. I am avoiding the US news.

  5. My local PBS station is KJZZ. It is mostly news shows all day but, it is the only radio station I listen to. Great idea to listen to local news from so far away.
I feel your pain when it comes to travel. I had many travel plans back in February and all have been halted.

We have - had? - have - a classical radio station but it was horrid. I had to stop listening as it was saccharine .
