Sunday Five - What You Keep - What You To Part With It

The crystal is half a set, when my first spouse and I we split, we split the set.  I have hauled it around, seldom used it.  Looking back I don't know why I wanted it when we were splitting things up.  Want it?

Hence this weeks Sunday Five:

1: Would you keep or part with the crystal you have almost never used in 36 years?
2: Do you keep cameras you no longer use (that film is no longer made for)?
3: Have you looked at things and asked, "does this make me happy?"
4: Do you keep anything that makes you sad?
5: Have you kept jewelry from past relationships?

My Answers:
1: Would you keep or part with the crystal you have almost never used in 36 years? - It is for sale - want it?
2: Do you keep cameras you no longer use (that film is no longer made for)? I have a few, some antiques and some sentimental.  I am giving one to my oldest brother.
3: Have you looked at things and asked, "does this make me happy?"  Not really, I need to do more of this.
4: Do you keep anything that makes you sad? Not intentionally.
5: Have you kept jewelry from past relationships?  I ended up with the rings from my first marriage.  I held onto them and a lot of anger for about 20 years.  One day I decided enough, I sold them for scrap gold.

Your answers in the comments.

  1. 1. Unused stuff, crystal included, goes straight to the thrift store.
    2. No, old cameras go to the electronics recycling depot.
    3. Yes, I have.
    4. Nope, never. Out it goes!
    5. Rings from past girlfriends all seem to get chucked in the nearest river. It is very cathartic.

  2. Well, I would have to say no to all these except one. I have kept family heirlooms and dinning pieces and crystal and still use them.

The camera thing was my dad. He had about 10 old cameras that didn't work. After he had died, I was in a antique market once looking around and happened upon a guy and we started talking about various things, and who turns out, sold old vintage tech peices. He wanted to see what I had, so I came back a week later. He offered us 400 on the spot, knowing they didn't work. So if you dont want something antique buyers or pickers are a great way to unload.

    2: nope

3: nope, I just know what to send to the thrift shop by instinct

    4: nope

5: I sold my first marriage rings to a "cash for gold" person. the only piece I kept from marriage #1 is a string of real pearls. after all, some oysters went through hell making them for me!

  4. 1. I think I have a crystal salad bowl from our wedding. I still use it occasionally. The tarnished silver rim around the top has disappeared though. If you don't use it, toss it or something more lucrative.

    2. Nope. I used cameras until they stopped working then tossed 'em.

    3. Nah.

    4. Things don't make me sad. Well, maybe BH's new motorcycle. I'll get rid of it once he kills himself riding it.

    5. I have no past relationships. I have a lot of watches with dead batteries that were gifts from BH. I can't bring myself to get rid of perfectly good timepieces just because I'm too lazy to get batteries.

    1. Re #5, most watch batteries are easy to change with few simple tools, you can order a tool kit and replacement batteries on Amazon. The batteries are about $1 each.

    2. Thank you, David. My hands don't work and Balder Half's cravings for buying cheap watches must be served! You know, two procrastinators should never marry each other. We've somehow made it work :)

    3. Oh, my, I agree with you. I married a procrastinator and I'm one, too. We have a mess in our home to deal with, and we just aren't doing it. He's 86 and I'm 69; neither of us is in great health. We are a mess and we have a mess. We need to hire an interventionist!

    4. Beth, I've come to the conclusion that after a certain age the mess becomes a nest. It makes it easier to deal with.
