Sunday Five - Airports

I spent a bit of time in airports last year.  Some are nice, some are not, sometimes airports are fun, often they are just a place to pass through on your way from where you are to where you want to be.
Hence the Sunday five this week.

1: Do you check in before you get to the airport?
2: Will I see you at baggage claim?
3: Have you ever visited the airline premium lounge?
4: Do you have Pre-Check for security?
5: Do you like airports?

My answers:
1: Do you check in before you get to the airport? I almost always check in online.
2: Will I see you at baggage claim? Yes, I almost always check a bag.  I get free checked bags on two airlines, I don't have to worry about my bag fitting, or my toothpaste tube being too large.
3: Have you ever visited the airline premium lounge? A couple of times a year, I will pay the fee and relax in comfort, especially if I have a long wait.
4: Do you have Pre-Check for security? Yes, I signed up for Global Entry / Nexus and get Pre-Check and expedited immigration and customs processing.
5: Do you like airports?  I do.  I grew up around airport and airplanes, I feel comfortable in airports.  Some are nicer than others, just like dogs.

Your answers in the comments.

  1. 1. I used to check in online before everyone and his dog started doing the same thing. Now I just pay the extra money to reserve an assigned seat so I can check in at the airport when I arrive and know I'll have a decent seat.
    2. I always check a bag unless it's just a quick day trip to and from another city for a meeting (although now that I'm retired I won't be taking those short trips anymore).
    3. My boss took me into the Air Canada members-only lounge on one trip. It's not a service I would bother signing up for myself. I was underwhelmed by the experience.
    4. No, I don't travel enough to bother with getting Nexus clearance. I don't mind going through regular security with everyone else.
    5. They're okay, for the most part.

  2. 1: Do you check in before you get to the airport? Most times I have
2: Will I see you at baggage claim? Most likely. I hate carrying things.
3: Have you ever visited the airline premium lounge? Like Debs, the three times were with Warbucks, and I too was underwhelmed. I have met more fun people and enjoyed myself at a bar in the airport.
4: Do you have Pre-Check for security? No
5: Do you like airports? Airports and planes are fine, but not my favorite. I always liked train travel. For Christmas Warbucks present to me is a trip this summer on the Venice Simpson Orient Express. Now to me, that will be traveling.

  3. 1-4: no

5: as a child, my grandmother would take to to PHL to watch the planes take off/land. now you can't even get near the damn entrance door without being eyed as a terrorist.

@maddie - I'm so fucking jealous of you!

  4. 1: Do you check in before you get to the airport? We try to, but we're not allowed from here to the States.
2: Will I see you at baggage claim? Oh, yeah.
3: Have you ever visited the airline premium lounge? Several times now. What a treat.
4: Do you have Pre-Check for security? No.
5: Do you like airports? No. I used to, but in the age of serious security, the fun is gone for me.
