Where have I been this week? We went down to King Street in Alexandria for a nice quiet walk. A shopping trip to Trader Joe's and Wegmans. Across the drive to the gym and the pool. Friday evening we reserved the pool tables in the Community Center for a gathering with friends. The First Saturday community coffee gathering.
Who died this week? Ron Ward, my 9th grade science teacher. When I was in the 10th grade he found out that I was taking aerial photos. He bought a bunch of prints of a couple of them, and sold them for a profit. I made money from the sales to buy cameras with, he made money that launched him into buying up half of the rental properties in town. He was an entrepreneur, and mad scientist. He later served as mayor. He and another school teacher, subdivided the back 40 acres of the farm I was raised on.
Who have I talked with this week? Friday evening was our first Friday LGBTQ condo gathering - Anna, Susan, Michael, Raf. Saturday was the first Saturday condo coffee - Warren, George and a handful of new people that I may or may not remember. An unusually social week for me.
What is happening in the kitchen this week? Homemade chilli, pulled pork, two party trays for Friday, raw veggies - carrots, cucumbers, celery and sweet peppers, and mixed cubed cheeses.
What am I reading? I started with a book written by a young man with autism, followed by a book in the thefts of the Mona Lisa. Oh and a Jose Andres cookbook on Greek and Turkish foods.
Who have I reached out to this week? New Years spurred some extra messages, my sister, one of my brothers, my former administration insider, Fred an old gym and lawyer friend, Bridget in Phoenix who unfortunately is not available when I will be there. A couple of dear blog friends. Did you reach out to anyone new this week?
What surprised me this week? A snow squall that passed through Friday afternoon, we went from dry to dusted in snow in minutes. What surprised you this week?
What is bringing me Joy? I am really enjoying time in the pool. I am swimming laps or taking a water aerobics class five or six times a week. The non-impact movement in nice warm water is wonderful. I don't know why I didn't start doing this sooner. What is bringing you Joy?
What is the weather like?
Shortly after this a Porsche got stuck trying to leave the parking area. then it snowed lots more.
Who deserves a slap this week? Facebook. Zuck announced that FB will stop doing fact checking. He claims this promotes free speech, what it promotes is baseless lies and it will lead to needless suffering and death. Out of five slaps, at least five. We should do one of two things, either delete our FB accounts, or start posting the most outrageous lies short of libel.
Yes, Zuckerberg deserves a huge slap. I didn’t reach out to anyone new. The parade on our street surprised me. As for joy, not feeling it right now. Not miserable either though.
ReplyDeleteNeon Jellyfish going by the front door, would be a nice surprise.
DeleteAh...Wegmans and Trader Joe's, two of my favorite grocery stores! King St. is a great place to walk.
ReplyDeletethere is some great shopping here.
DeleteFB's decision is absolutely appalling. But don't post outrageous lies. Post outrageous truths instead.
ReplyDeleteInstead of trying "punish Mexico" we should be trying to help them improve the quality of life for those who live there, like helping them build a modern alternative to the Panama Canal.
DeleteF*ckerberg has turned it from Facebook to Fakebook. He deserves slaps from all of us.
ReplyDeleteThe joy is the ice cold weather under bright blue skies; that makes me feel alive and happy. The idea that it may snow this weekend will also bring me joy.
19 degrees here this mornng.
DeleteI'm with you on those slaps! I'm so glad that I deleted my FB account years ago. I like Bob's new name for it, 'Fakebook'. That is much more accurate.
ReplyDeleteFakebook is a good turn of phrase.
DeleteIt's been so cold here so my outdoor walks have not been happening. I miss them. Helping my brother, helping my son whose thyroid is giving him grief, trying to clean up Christmas. But reading good books so that brought me joy.
ReplyDeleteI am reading a delightful book about a piano in Paris.
DeleteMy husband requested chili and I think I'll make some for tonight.
ReplyDeleteGreat cold weather food.
DeleteI finally quit FB, which is why I restarted m y blog. I do not miss FB one bit!
ReplyDeletePS: Such a little cutie there behind the wheel!!! 😘😘😘
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that American war ships have plotted their courses, loaded with provisions and ammunition and when #45 becomes #47, he will give the word for an invasion of Greenland. I should alert people to this using Face Book.
