Travel Tuesday - Alaska

I have been to Alaska twice.  The first time was work - with a rest day adventure - the second time in the fall of 2008 was an inside passage cruise.  The cruise was wonderful, leisurely, relaxed. The ships go into places that are difficult or impossible to get to by land.  This photo was taken on a sail up a fiord. This was in early September, before new snow for the season, that is a glacier going up that valley.

My recommendation for Alaska is go, and if you get a chance to do so, go again.

  1. My aunt and uncle lived there for three years, had there first child, before moving back.

My aunt said it was very pretty, but no place for a lady.

    1. Interesting as a tourist, but I wouldn't want to live there.

    1. There is a lot of wild. I flew from Anchorage to Denali in a smaller plane, I sat in the co-pilot seat. About an hour out, the pilot was pointing out the houses along the rivers and lakes and he said, think about what don't you see. Roads, power lines, phone lines, none of them for miles and miles and miles.

    2. I wouldn’t dream of living there, but it would be amazing to see... especially from the cockpit of a small plane.

The Inside Passage was an option for us after our Canadian Rocky Mountains train trip. We regret not doing it now. Hey, we can always come back and do that as a trip. But then the world changed.

  4. I am solar powered myself, but, our Alaskan cruise was my all time favorite one. It even beat out all of our Hawaiian ones. Not to mention the Caribbean cruise. Beautiful place, Alaska. I couldn't live there, though.

    2. There was an indoor pool at the spa. Loved it, hanging out with my sister. The same sister who went behind my back and signed me up to sing a song with the band. It was like live karaoke and nobody had talent. Fun! Laying on lounge chairs with a window wall (I don't know what else to call it) in the spa, watching the glaciers melt. Awesome trip!

  5. My sister lived up there for awhile, and she loved it, even though it's quite faraway from nearly everything.
