Enlightening

I had so much fun playing in and out of the light in the Pantheon in Rome.  This is the concrete dome with an oculus or opening in the top.  The contrast between the sun streaming in and the shade in the interior was simply enlightening.  When it was build 2,000 years ago, it must have blown the minds of the people who entered, it still does today.

Travel - it can be so enlightening.

Hi David, Cool post! I did a lot of travel 30 years ago, mostly in Asia. I never did get to Europe at all. Do you have a photo of your little penguin in Rome?

  2. I've always been fascinated by the play of light and dark. I envy you in Europe. I fear I will never cross off my bucket list a trip to Europe. Maybe.

    1. Ron, Go while you can. Off season is easier and less expensive. Hotels are expensive in cities, but less so in smaller towns, I have averaged about $120 per night the last two trips. Trains are easy. There are tons of international flights from Philly, look for an bargain, recently you could find round trip air for around $600 including all of the taxes and fees. Two or three cities in two weeks is a nice itinerary.

Its one of my favourite buildings. When I was there it was snowing outside but nothing was coming through the roof. Wasn't sure if that was divine intervention or not!

  4. I gazed at this picture sadly and said out loud "we've got a picture of John the Baptist too, but our's got less trimmings'.
