Travel Tuesday: Oh Where Is This Going

I have not spent a lot of time perched on a bar stool. I had a mojito at the lobby bar of the Caribe Hilton San Juan, they claim to have invented it.  I have stood at a zink bar counter in Montmartre looking up at Sacre Coeur  indulging in a small Abbey De Leff in the middle of the afternoon.  I had brunch and bloody marys with one of our favorite bloggers at a bar in the valley of the sun.  Oh and raw oysters and cold beer at a bar overlooking the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, life as it should be.

A part of me fears sitting at bars.  This undoubtedly goes back to my childhood, my parents prejudice transfered to me.  You would think as an adult I would get over that, I am passing beyond adult into old farthood.  Maybe I will get over it, maybe I won't.

Fear not the alley, the darkish side street.  For good things are often found there.

  1. I don’t do it often now, but in my past I spent A LOT of time perched on bar stools. Usually very nice places and usually very social.

    2. I hardly drink, so don’t want to take up the space, especially when sitting for an hour with others who are getting lit.

  2. I am loathe to mention Melbourne's laneway culture as the hidden away bars are not places I would feel comfortable in but they are really great for young people.

Oysters and beer in San Diego overlooking the sea sounds rather nice. I am truly impressed by a zinc bar counter looking up at Sacre Coeur.

  3. I enjoy a nice beverage in a cocktail lounge every now and then as a special treat when traveling.

  4. I've been to a few bars in my day but hardly ever sitting at the bar. I preferred the dance floor.

    1. I can't dance, or at least I don't think I can, and that is much the same.
