The Sunday Five: Music on the Square

He was amazing, playing and singing noticeably, but softly on the square across from the Cathedral in Montreal.  A real treat.

1: Are there street musicians where you live?

2: Do you pause to listen to street performers?

3: Do you drop money in their case or bucket?

4: Have you bought a CD from one?

5: Should they be encouraged or discouraged?

My Answers:

1: Are there street musicians where you live?  Yes, in tourist traffic areas.

2: Do you pause to listen to street performers?  Sometimes, not always.

3: Do you drop money in their case or bucket? If I like what I hear.

4: Have you bought a CD from one? A couple of times.

5: Should they be encouraged or discouraged? Most should be encouraged.  There is one in DC, that if I ever win the lottery will be rich as long as he agrees to never play in public again (actually he has gotten better.)

    5. To officially busk in the city at a designated location buskers must audition. Not all have a permit and their talents can be low, but most are acceptable.

  2. Are there street musicians where you live? Yes! Thank heavens

Do you pause to listen to street performers? Yes, almost always.

Do you drop money in their case or bucket? Almost always.

Have you bought a CD from one? No, not that I have seen any they had.

Should they be encouraged or discouraged? Encouraged!!!!! Why should we not encourage it? There are far more things to worry about, and if someone enjoys it or performs to bring music why not?

    2. Sometimes. Obviously out of town.
    3. I have. I won't say as a rule, but I will.
    4. I have not.
    5. The arts should always be encouraged.
