Sheep on the heather, Sunday Five

It all started with one cute little stuffed sheep, picked up one spring near easter.  He was cute and fuzzy and the next thing you know, acrylic or wool, sheep were a regular part of our lives.  A week in Yorkshire fueled the passion.

1: Have you touched a live sheep?
If so: What to you think of the lanolin smell?
2: If you had time and space, would you keep sheep?
3: Are there fields of sheep near where you live?
4: Do you have a stuffed (artificial) sheep in the house?
5: Do you wear wool clothing?

My answers:
1: Have you touched a live sheep? Yes, when they are welcoming they are fun to pet.
If so: What to you think of the lanolin smell? It makes my nose itch.
2: If you had time and space, would you keep sheep? I don't think I should be responsible for keeping anything alive.
3: Are there fields of sheep near where you live? There is a flock in the historic farm at Mt Vernon about 8 miles away, not many others in this urban jungle.
4: Do you have a stuffed (artificial) sheep in the house? Several
5: Do you wear wool clothing? When I can.

Your answers in the comments please.

  1. 1. I've touched live sheep on several occasions. Does lanolin smell like sheep poop? If not, I never noticed the smell.

    2. No. I prefer goats.

    3. Yep. Sheep, cows and horses.

    4. Bella, my bichonpoo, looks like a sheep when her hair grows. Does that count?

    5. I have two or three wool blazers that come in handy.

  3. 1-4: no

5: 100% wool - no; I am allergic to lanolin. I can wear 100% superwash wool items that I knit myself (superwash is where the lanolin has been stripped away). I am grateful for the sheep who give up their wool to be spun into yarn for clothing.

  7. 1: Have you touched a live sheep? Yes.
If so: What to you think of the lanolin smell? Made my nose itch, too!
2: If you had time and space, would you keep sheep? No.
3: Are there fields of sheep near where you live? Not that I'm aware of. I think there are close to 20 million sheep in Spain but they're mostly in Central Spain.
4: Do you have a stuffed (artificial) sheep in the house? No. And never had. We have a cousin who, like you, collects sheep. So anytime we saw one we liked, it went to her.
5: Do you wear wool clothing? I do, but a lot less than when I lived in the Northeastern US!
