The Way We Were Wednesday

This was about 16 - 17 years ago, the first time Travel and I met Stephen and Duncan.  This was the infamous mushy peas lunch.  The English and Irish serve mashed green peas, there are variations with some containing mashed potatoes, some with mint, others with just peas.  It was the first time we have come across this.  Jay ordered them, and then commented on the flavor that they retained the essential peaness. Say that fast, and see if you snicker?

  3. If they actually DID retain the essential “peaness” (priceless), I might like them better. As it is, they're right up there (or down there) with baked beans and pickled beets!

    1. You don't like baked beans? Let me cook for you, and we will give that another try.

Don't even suggest that. I have given them so many tries over the years. When we lived in Guilford, our little gourmet market made "the best baked beans in the world." Every one of our friends and neighbors said so. SG agreed. He told me that if I tried them and didn't like them, he would never ask me to try baked beans again. I tried them. I hated them. And I was done trying. So, no thanks.

    3. Maybe a Sunday five question, what food do you detest that others think is just fine. For me broccoli

  5. I hate cooked mushrooms, squash, cooked red peppers--it's the texture. Weirdly, I love raw apples, smooth applesauce, and despise cooked apples such as in an apple pie. Again, it's the texture.

  6. Peas mixed with mashed potatoes, my favorite. Mixed with rice, a close second. Straight up peaness is good from time to time.

  7. Whoa. It's been a minute, no?
Love the little penguin. And I just cannot deal with green peas. I don't want to think about them mashed. Nope.

    XOXO
