My World of Wonders aka the Wednesday Ws Where, What and Why

We are staying a couple of blocks south of London Waterloo Station, a nice predictable Hampton Inn. This is the view into a very working class London neighborhood. It is unseasonably warm, the room has air conditioning. My accomplishment of the day yesterday, was getting us on the right trains with the announcements in Flemish.  Premiere class on the Eurostar was nice, they served a nice lunch and drinks at our seats.

Where am I? London

What am I doing there? Sightseeing and having dinner with dear Friends.

What do we plan to see?  The Museum of Natural History, and Greenwich.

Why those two? The Museum building is a masterpiece of brick architecture and I have not seen it. One of my grandmother's was born in Greenwich, while her father was working on tunnels. From reading her birth certificate, he was digging tunnels for the sewage works. I want to go see the neighborhood she was born in.

Where to next? Scotland, for the first time.

  1. The Museum of Natural History is quite a building; in itself it's a piece of art and history.

  3. I loved the museum. We stayed a block away. The trip to Greenwich should be fascinating. Can’t wait to hear what you discover. Have a great time.

  4. I think there is a Holiday Inn Express somewhere near there. I haven't stayed there but I've checked it out as a possible place to stay.
The Natural History Museum is truly a gem of a building. I hope you are enjoying it. Say hello to Charles Darwin while you are there.

  6. How exciting to find your grandmother's home and see the neighborhood where she grew up. Getting on the train to London sounds like an adventure in itself. Enjoy every minute.

    1. You could set your watch by the train in Belgium, but the signs don't use the train numbers printed on the tickets, and the designation is the end of the run for that train, most often not the station you are getting off at. You have to search for the intermediate stops to guess is you are on the right train.

    1. I take no sides on that one. I do refer to northern Ireland as occupied Ireland.
