The Sunday Five: Bakery

1: Is there a really great bakery near where you live?

2: What item or flavor do you select when it is available?

3: Have you ever made anything like the pastry above?

4: Describe one memorable bakery you have visited?

5: When was the last time you baked?

My answers:

1: Is there a really great bakery near where you live?  Not really, there are a couple of supermarket bakeries, but not a real stand alone bakery.

2: What item or flavor do you select when it is available? Chocolate or mocha.

3: Have you ever made anything like the pastry above? I have not, it would take patience, perhaps I should practice this as a skill building exercise.

4: Describe one memorable bakery you have visited? The photo above was a tiny bakery on a dark pedestrian only street a few blocks from the Prada Museum in Madrid. All they did was fancy pastries. Everything was wonderful.

5: When was the last time you baked? When I wrote this one, I had baked a cake the day before.

Please share your answers in the comments.

  1. 1: Is there a really great bakery near where you live? Yes one within walking distance (shout out to Freeport Bakery) and another a short drive away.
2: What item or flavor do you select when it is available? Almond horns
3:Have you ever made anything like the pastry above? No, I haven't the patience and when there are masters in the craft, I will encourage them by purchasing their wares.
4: Describe one memorable bakery you have visited? Fauchon.
5: When was the last time you baked? Christmas cookies which I distribute as a once in a year binge. Baking is a sensory experience which I enjoy. However, for medical reasons, I can't have the carbs and sugars so I have to give away anything I bake PDQ.

    4. My most memorable bakery? In the small village near Florence where we stayed during our trip to Italy, there was a lovely bakery-cafe near the train station where we would often have coffee and pastry in the mornings. It's where I first had Nutella in a pastry, which was a revelation!

  8. I know there is a good bakery in my city but I have never been in it. I'm not much of a fancy baker and usually rely on box mixes. I'm just too lazy to bother.
BUT... I did want to let you know that I joined a Hands Off protest yesterday and it was fabulous! Thousands of people with lots of clever signs! It was so great to be around so many, many people that feel the way I do about this administration.

  9. There is not a bakery nearby, worse luck. If I had one I would get bread on a regular basis. My baking plans for the weekend are postponed due to company.
