Travel Tuesday: 24 hours in Iceland August 2015

On our way home from Germany in 2015, we did a 24 hour stopover in Iceland. We rented a car, stayed in small hotel on the outskirts of Reykjavik. It broke up the trip home, into two 4 or 5 hour flights, and it was a great first taste of Iceland.  We wanted more, we have been back twice since. And probably will go again.  Icelandair has great off season and shoulder season travel packages, and they just entered a partnership with Southwest to expand the airports you can fly from.

  1. I've been to countries that are referred to exotic, but Iceland just seems so alien to me. I'm pleased to know you enjoyed visiting the country more than once. I remember the last time at least.

  3. I don't know if it is possible these days but when I visited Iceland in 1991, I bought a round Iceland bus ticket - using service buses and staying in youth hostels. It was like travelling on a different planet.

    1. There are vastly increasing number of really nice hotels in Iceland. It is a high cost country to travel in. Otherworldly

  4. Iceland seems like one of those far off, hard to get to, exotic places, and then you see the pictures and realize that it seems like one of those far off, hard to get to, exotic places and yet people go and share their amazing photos.
