All has gone to plan, we are far out in the middle of the Atlantic today. Enjoying the best things in life, quiet times, the passing weather, time spent reading, a warm bear hug. And enjoying some of the second best things in life. Food, drink, even WiFi while thousands of miles from civilization.
If I had children, they would be worried that I am spending their inheritance. I don't have children, I might as well enjoy it. I remember telling my father to splurge, to indulge, and it being too late for there to be much he could enjoy.
I remember my father telling his mother the same thing. It was about a year after my grandfather died. She had been looking at a new car, a pretty little cream colored Mercury coupe, with all of the toys. She was hesitating, she said, "it is so much money!" He responded, "that is okay mom, take care of the money and I will buy a new car when you are gone." She picked up the phone and called the dealer and told them to get it ready. She didn't really need the car, but she certainly enjoyed it - and so did I. A couple of years later she decided she wanted a four door car, and she traded it on a new Buick, a car that lasted the rest of her life.
Find something in every day, that brings you happiness.
It clearly hasn’t been foggy all the time. You’re so tan!
ReplyDeleteThe first four days were sunny, I had to be careful how much time I was in the sun after a cold pale winter.
DeleteI don't think I could ever do a sea crossing as I get seasick so easily. I am glad that you are having a great time. You are right, you can't take your money with you, so enjoy it now!
ReplyDeleteThere is a gentle roll of the ship.
Delete"Find something in every day, that brings you happiness" Hell's bells David, have you changed your last name from Godfrey to Confucius?
ReplyDeletePossibly. Life is what we make of it, the choices and attitudes we chose to have.
DeleteHappiness can be elusive and sometimes tricky to see much less acknowledge so you really need to look for it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you've found yours.
Shit happens, how I respond to it is my choice.
DeleteLove that pillow, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI should have bought it, but it was like $90.
DeleteOne of my high school friends died unexpectedly this week. It sure makes one realize that we are here one minute and gone the next. Yes, enjoy life, be kind, find happiness around you.
ReplyDeleteI was writing the other day, about the uncertainty of life and death - a post for next month. Take care of yourself, and take time.
DeleteI am happy that you are enjoying this trip. I'm about to make some reservations myself. More about that later.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting. I am plotting fall of 2026.
DeleteActually the Titanic's an interesting subject. I agree with your grandmother it may not be a typical Cemetery but I don't think we should be disturbing a place where people passed on. Seems disrespectful. The ship sank people died it's history. Leave it alone.
ReplyDeleteThe son of one of the founders of Holland America Line, went down with the ship. A great history of the line today.
DeleteI "retired" the first time when I was in my mid 40's and had come into some money. I loved it but after a few years the money ran out and I went back to work again. Shortly after I began collecting Social Security but was still working I got fired for a very poor and mistaken reason. That started my second and final retirement and I've enjoyed it to the hilt. You're doing yours right.
ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying life.
DeleteAs I am discovering, it gets much harder to spend money when you are older. I am trying but not doing very well at it. The odd thing is I now have more money than I've ever had. I love your grandmother anecdote.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you are enjoying your cruise very much.
Spending generally goes down as we age,
