Southampton England yesterday afternoon, we will be in Belgium Friday morning. Southampton was a glimpse into family history. It is where my grandmother and her family said farewell to their native country about 110 years ago. Neither she nor her parents returned after the second crossing from Southampton to New York. There are a few buildings here, that she passed by on her way to the ship. I walked back to the ship in tribute to her journey.
The photos are from the cruise last May, Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. The market was crowded, bustling, active, filled with locals and tourists. The photos bring back the smell, the sound, the tastes. One of my great joys in travel, is exploring local markets.
The Condo Art Council does gallery shows in the community center, and this includes 6 pieces of art in the Grill, our semi-private bar and restaurant. Often the art that goes in the Grill has nothing to do with where it is located. I was thinking that I would like to see things there that are related to good food and drink. Later this summer, I will be displaying six framed photos from markets I have visited around the world. I am thinking maybe after that I will do a series on cooking. In the fall harvest season, maybe wine making?
I'm like you. When traveling it is always interesting to see the markets. I have to say that the last trip to Nairobi had the most unique sights and flavor of any markets I'd seen to date.
