Florida

I lived in Florida for about 20 years, on and off in the early to mid 70's then full time from 1977 to 1995.  As soon as I could after moving away, I visited at least twice year year, sometimes more.  With my parents gone, I don't have the reason to go back, and I miss it.  I like the nearness of the water, the gentle sand beaches, the flat pine scrub that covers most of the state.  The gentle humid climate. It is seldom hotter than 95, seldom colder than a light frost.

Do I want to live there again?  Not really, I miss some of the familiar places and activities from the city I really grew up in.  But likely those have changed. They say you can never really go home again.

What place calls you back?

Nowhere really although are places I'd like to be at certain climatically friendly times of the year, mostly European but some parts of Canada are good, and I have only seen NYC, no more of the US. If it is hot and humid, it is not for me and I have always wondered why old people retire to Miami when it has such a disagreeable climate. While we get some killer dry heat at times, it is not usually for more than a few days at the most. It is rarely humid here and it is not cold enough in winter for snow or ice, although there will be snow on the nearby hills at times. While I loved Vienna, it is quite expensive. Lisbon and Porto are very nice but probably too hot in the summer.

    1. New York is an amazing city, and there is so much more to see in the USA. Coastal southern California is the closest to the climate you are thinking of,

  3. No place I’ve lived calls me back, although I have loved some of them. But places I’ve spent some time do. Florence (Italy, not Oregon) is the first that comes to mind. Amsterdam is another.

  5. Hmmmm... Is any place I've lived in for a while calling me back? (I put it this way because London, Paris, and Rome call me to return but I've not lived there. Wait, I did live in Rome for almost a year, does that count?) And there are places, like where I went to school, that I like going back to. One thing is very true: they are never the same as you remember them. I have learned that over the years; you really can't go home again.
