We have had a few warmer days, a few days when it was easy to get out for a walk. I walk nearly every day, walking outside is different than walking on the treadmill. On the treadmill I watch YouTube videos on my Ipad. I need to do something to block out the background noise, often someone has cable news playing on one or more of the televisions, or someone will be sitting on one of the stationary bikes holding a loud conversation on their phone. I just tune and tune out. When I walk outside, I walk in silence. No headphones, just the sound of the wind, water and birds. A walk outside is great thinking, or non-thinking time.
I love my daily blog reads. I look forward to hearing what people are seeing, doing, thinking. Please keep sharing. For my own health, I am avoiding commenting on political posts. Post them as you need to, please don't take it personally if I skip commenting on them. I just can't do it sometimes.
Trigger Warning, the following paragraph is somewhat political
These are strange times. I am finding the Washington Post less emotionally disturbing than Facebook. The Post reports the silliness of the day, and the reversals of last week's outrage. I remind myself that the clown is looking for reaction more than approval. When the joke fails, he moves rapidly onto the next outrage. Facebook is filled with anger - and there is plenty to be angry about - but marinating in it is not healthy for me. Facebook and Instagram also insert political content that is opposite of my views. The algorithm is being tweaked to force this crap into my feed. I am avoiding these platforms, seriously considering dropping them.
I go political from time to time in my blog posts. I will try to remember to post trigger warnings when I do.
That is a good term. Marinating in news. I watch the news once, maybe twice a week. And I have all but cut out a lot of social media, news sites and papers. It's not healthy.
ReplyDeleteWhat the world needs now is the DragQueen good news report, a new YouTube channel.
DeleteAs Mistress says, Marinating in news, is a good phrase. I don't think for blog posts that you need to post a trigger warning. We are adults and will quickly decide by how a post begins as to whether to read the post or not.
ReplyDeleteBecause the owner of the Washington Post has sided with #47, plus the banning of 'the cartoon', it is a paper I no longer think is worthy of trust as unbiased and accurate reporter of news.
There are a handful of business leaders who have pushed the edge of good judgement.
DeleteThanks for the trigger warning. Some days it just gets to be too much. I, too, prefer walking outside with no music playing. I used to always have my airbuds in, but I find that distracted me from what I was experiencing. The fresh air, the scenery, being comfortable with myself. I’ve never been able to accomplish non-thinking. The brain reels. Some days worse-better than others. Here, lately, the walks are better because there’s so much that’s new to me. I do resent gym-mates having business conversations on their phones while they work out near me. NOT relaxing.
ReplyDeleteThe guy next to me on the treadmill spent 45 minutes reviewing a contract over the phone. I zoned out with cruise ship reviews on YouTube.
DeleteOne gym I belonged to didn’t allow phone calls in the workout spaces. I loved that.
DeleteToday's news can give you the blues
ReplyDeleteAbsorb it or avoid it - you can choose
Tyrant on the TV spouting his bile
But he will be history in a little while.
45 months, or until he dies, whichever comes first.
DeleteI hope the latter. Arise President Vance! Saviour of The Free World!
DeleteI try to watch less news and read more from sources I find reliable; but still, I keep it short, you know, "Just the facts, ma'am."
ReplyDeleteI spread my pro-Blue news and boycotts and protests so we can keep the momentum going into 2026!
Then I sit and read with a cat in my lap while Carlos plays the trumpet and all is right with the world.
I need a cat somedays.
DeleteNature is a great solace against all the BS in the world right now.
ReplyDeleteA pretty day for a walk here today.
DeleteI love my outside walks. I don't have ear buds or headphones, just my good ole ears to hear what's going on around me. The other day when walking, I heard crows. Last week my grandson and I cawed back at crows when we were on a walk so I cawed on my recent walk. To hear yourself breathe while taking in deep breaths of fresh air is life affirming, too. I take my phone with me in case there's a photo waiting to be taken but I turn the volume off so text message and calls don't interrupt my "me time".
ReplyDeleteWe all need Me time.
DeleteI get some newsletters on my email account and that's how I keep up with the news. It's hard to read some of it but I often look for the good things being done to stop this horrible man. I still have hope even though I am scared.
ReplyDeleteWe survived Ronald Reagan, and COVID.
DeleteI canceled the Washington Post a few weeks ago because of JB's editorial edicts. It makes me sad because I've admired that paper in the past. I got rid of Facebook many years ago. I still have Instagram and luckily, I haven't seen any negative posts there (so far).
ReplyDeleteThe Journalists of 40 years ago, must be appalled at the lack of standards today.
