The Way We Were Wednesday - Holidays Past

Based on the pin my grandmother is wearing, this was probably taken at Christmas, in 1975 or 1976.  The family was gathered at my grandparents' winter home in Istachatta, Florida (google it if you want.)  My grandparent's spent about 20 winters there, my grandmother stayed a year or two after my grandfather died (both grandfathers died in the fall of 1976.)

It was always nice seeing everyone, but the tension was always palpable.  Silly things, differences in cooking style or my mother obsessing over dinner being done on time, and who would be late arriving. I never enjoyed the day.

As an adult, I have focussed on making holidays, stress free.  Relax and enjoy the holiday season.

  1. Luckily, we have a stress free day for the holidays. And for that I am truly grateful.

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, to you both.

  2. Another great snap shot. I love your collection. Congrats on keeping a stress-free holiday. We’ve had a FEW of those. Extended family can make it difficult to accomplish.

    1. I was feeling guilty about not going to see my brothers in Florida, March was the last time I went, then I thought, I-95 runs both directions, they have not come this way.

  3. THIS is why both of us avoid family and go out to eat. both sides of the families are MAGAts (dump supporters). UGH! have a great holiday!

    1. Enjoy your day, your way. There are a couple of those unmentionables in my family. Best avoided until the mango menace is behind bars.

  5. I haven't celebrated the holidays since I was 17. The only stress I get is when I forget and end up at a crowded Walmart, trying to pick up my meds. This is the very best season for my hibernation!
