The Sunday Five: Imagine the Rest of The Story

1: Were these left on the bench by accident or intentionally?

2: Was it a happy occasion or a sad occasion?

3: Will someone come back looking for the flowers?

4: Describe the person who placed them here?

5: Would you leave them there, or take them with you?

My answers:

1: Were these left on the bench by accident or intentionally? I think the flowers were left behind intentionally, we do that.

2: Was it a happy occasion or a sad occasion? People carry flowers like this for weddings and funerals, I suspect this was spreading the cremains of a loved one in the river, a sad occasion where we leave flowers behind.

3: Will someone come back looking for the flowers?  I think they are left there on purpose, to brighten the place after a solemn event.

4: Describe the person who placed them here?  I suspect these were left behind by the daughter or granddaughter, I see her in a flowing skirt and simple blouse, with her long dark hair tied back.

5: Would you leave them there, or take them with you? These should be left, time, the sun and the wind will make them a part of the landscape.

This is a simple exercise in creative writing. Feel free to follow the prompts or to spin a narrative in your own style.  Please share your answers in the comments.

  1. Your story was so beautiful and mine will never live up to it. I'll give it the ol' community college try, though.
    1. The flowers were left by accident. Dude was surprised by a bee.
    2. It was a very sad occasion. Dude was stung by the bee.
    3. No one will look for the flowers. They're visiting their loved one (aka Dude) in the local hospital. Dude's highly allergic to bees.
    4. Dude is a bit of a dim bulb. Honestly, who carries around flowers when deathly allergic to bees? Should've stuck with artificial flowers. He was wearing a red hat, so there's that.
    5. I'd leave them. Free meal or whatever for the bees. Sharing is caring and all that.

Sorry. These are my dark months and I'm a little punch drunk. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

  2. I'm with Deedles. There must be something in the air...
    1. Were these left on the bench by accident or intentionally? Both. It was a date gone horribly wrong. JD Vance or Stephen Miller must be dating again.
2: Was it a happy occasion or a sad occasion? It was a frightening nightmare. One or both parties ran in terror from the site screaming.
3: Will someone come back looking for the flowers? Not on your life.
4: Describe the person who placed them here? The flowers were not placed. They were thrown into the air in fright and landed in their present location before the aforementioned screaming departure.
5: Would you leave them there, or take them with you? I ain't touching that. It is full of bad spirit.

  3. 1. Accidently. They would have otherwise be remembered and taken or trashed.
    2. I think happy.
    3. Probably not. They look as cheap and nasty as John Gray's shoes.
    4. A well meaning young man.
    5. Chuck them into the water below. Maybe some fish will find them appetising.
