Who have I talked to this week? My Sweet Bear. Saturday was the first Saturday community coffee, so Ruth, Jon, Scott, Charlie, Joan. Amy from the arts group.
What have I been up to in the kitchen this week? Roast turkey breast with wild rice, roast beef, chicken soup (starting with a whole chicken), fish pies.
How has the weather been? Nighttime lows in the 40's down to 38 one night, afternoon highs in the low to mid 60's. Lots of blue skies. Lots of wonderful top down convertible weather.
What have I been listening to? A YouTube feed of music from the 70s and 80s, in other words the oldies channel.
What made me cringe this week? A video on YouTube on foods people ate to survive in the 1970s." The title makes it sound like the 70's were a distant and difficult time.

The 70s were a difficult time. Women's magazines were printing terrible recipes - I know because my mother was trying them. Julia Childs began her show in '73, and while that gave me and my sisters ideas, Mom stuck with Good Housekeeping and Woman's Day and the weird things they did with chicken and on really bad days, gelatin.
ReplyDeleteI remember my father complaining about steak again!
DeleteInteresting that there are many videos on YouTube about what people ate at various periods of time.
ReplyDeleteI think low to mid 60s sounds ok. I think.
YouTube sometimes gets the algorithm right for me with music. I remember once having found a brilliant curation of music I liked and Ray and I stayed up way to late, mesmerised by hit after hit.
There is almost always streaming music playing at my desk.
DeleteSo nice to have some good news coming out of the US for once!
ReplyDeleteGood news is a god thing.
DeleteI remember the 70s food, but luckily my mother actually cooked meals.
ReplyDeleteI once had a sleepover with at a friend's house and his mom made spaghetti for us. I raced home to tell my mother that I had spaghetti FROM A CAN!!!!!!!
My mom said, "Not in my house."
Canned spaghetti is not bad, but spaghetti is not that hard to make.
DeleteI love what is on the menu at your house. It all sounds so delicious.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy playing in the kitchen
DeleteThe 70's... high school-the best of times/the worst of times; then college-that was when I came into my own. So, a mixed bag decade for me. By the end of the decade I was in a monastery.
ReplyDeleteA miserable era, diet was not the challenge for me.
DeleteI was lucky that my Mom was Italian and was a terrific cook. I do remember teaching her how to make tacos (from a package) - I learned that when I was in college (in the 70s) and it's still a family favorite!
ReplyDeleteI am having chilli nachos for lunch.
DeleteI keep seeing arcticles on the old days. The 70s and 80s! What kills me is it’s true!
ReplyDeleteHow did we suddenly become old, I don't remember much of my 40's or 50's.
DeleteI hope that you were able to tame the wild rice David.
ReplyDeleteI should stop over and have bite to eat with you,
