The Thursday Ramble: Get Out and Go

It is the season to get out and go. We had a long hot summer. A summer that made us want to stay inside. Not that we couldn't go outside, but that it was generally unpleasant to go outside. The heat and humidity were relentless this year. The Mall in Washington DC, the great American font lawn, was a three ring circus this summer - elect a clown - and you get a circus. Not a place we wanted to spend anytime. And with fall, this is all changing, the weather has changed becoming pleasantly cooler, the circus has folded its tent, taken down the reviewing stands and left town.

In the past couple of weeks, I have gone into the city for a museum walk, out to Mt Vernon for the fall Colonial Fair and Market, into old town Alexandria just to walk, to go to lunch, and to do a little shopping, across the River to National Harbor for a long walk about. We have taken a little overnight trip to Maryland, and soon a road trip to upstate New York. Ah, we are escaping the self imposed confinement of summer.

In what other ways do we self impose confinement?

  1. It would be tough to be surrounded by THAT. Glad you’re feeling a bit freer now that the heat and summer idiocy has passed.

  2. Too hot to go out, too cold, too wet, too windy. We have a few days each year when we can go out.

  3. We are over the heat though we did warm up a bit this week. But the cool mornings and evenings are wonderful. We've been walking through the parks, the Historic District and along the river and it's been lovely.
Another way to impose confinement? Be on your phone all the time because you're missing everything!

  4. Everyone thought this summer was a hot one, but I didn't think it was hot in the least....I can recall more hot summers were it went from spring to summer in May in the high 90's to over 100 every day till September. At least here is was not hot anyway.

And I agree with Bob. People...put the phone down and look around around, look and wonder.

  5. With all the rain we've had over the past few days, the temps have finally relaxed a bit. Many of us were itching to get outside. The weather app says back in the 90's next week but I think the worst has finally broken.,

  8. I grew up living in chaos. I enjoy confinement, self-imposed or otherwise. Balder Half has talked me into visiting San Diego this weekend Fri.-Mom. Temps will be in the lower to mid-nineties, plus humidity. Family chaos and heat. I hope to survive it all. Airport anxiety is already taking hold. Oh, well.

    2. I'm actually looking forward to the chaos. My sisters are loud, crazy and hilarious. I'm not loud. Two out of three ain't bad.
