Foodie Friday: Bucket List Experiences

Tony Bourdain urged us to travel, to go to Paris, to take a table at a sidewalk cafe, order a coffee, or a glass of wine, or two glasses, and observe and learn from the world going by. I need to relax into this mode. I can do this, and I can learn more about the world and myself in doing so. There were a couple of bucket list food experiences on this trip.

First was coffee and a croissant, at a sidewalk table in front of a pastry shop in Paris. And last Saturday morning that is just what I did. I skipped the hotel breakfast, I have eaten enough scrambled eggs and sausage in the last couple of weeks, and walked across the corner to an incredible pastry shop/bakery. I managed to order in my terrible school boy French, and I sat outside in the cool morning air, and enjoyed. I have long wanted to do that, and now I have. It was so good, I went back on Monday for a second experience.

One evening, again in Paris, Sweet Bear was not feeling 100% and said, no to going out for dinner.  There were three cafes on the four corners near the hotel. I looked at the menus at all three. Mustered up my courage (I have a slight fear of eating dinner in a restaurant alone, let alone ordering in French) and walked in took a seat and ordered. The first server told me to scan the QR code to see the menu in English, I thought about leaving, and instead stubbornly studied the menu in French. A second server came over, I ordered what I wanted, in French with a little pointing at the menu. Was served and checked off another bucket list item, dinner in a French Bistro in Paris, solo.

What food related item is on your list of "I have always wanted to do that?"
