Last Friday, I went into the city and wandered around the National Gallery of Art for a couple of hours.
I needed to spend time walking in silence,
I needed to be surrounded by beauty and grace,
I needed to see things that made me think, and feel,
I needed sights that took by breath away.
Oh, I needed that!
I love watching painters when they're in museums like that. And we need to go and support our museums now more than ever. Especially after Trump's museums czar goes in and starts gutting.
ReplyDeleteThe National Gallery is not part of the Smithsonian, giving them more independence.
DeleteI didn't realize that artists can set up to paint in the museum. Thanks for taking photos of them as it is really interesting to see how they make it their own.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice peaceful way to spend the day.
Apparently artists can apply to spend time copying works in the National Gallery, I don't know how the selection process works.
DeleteWith all the craziness out there, immersing yourself in art is probably a wise medicine. The third picture down appears to shown you holding a camera...twice!
ReplyDeleteA mirror,
DeleteI enjoyed your little tour of the National Gallery. I love your reflection shot and that one looking through the doors. The artists at work were great to see too.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great museum, two buildings connected underground, about 16 acres of space.
